A raised and released Female monarch on a zinnia, fueling for her journey to Mexico in September 2025.

Now we wait excitedly for the migrating monarchs traveling North who find common milkweed as their host plants along the 2026 journey. Our waystation is ready!

Native milkweed plants serve to host the monarch eggs and feed the hatched caterpillars in their initial stages of transformation.

Plant natives to your area and monarchs will come!
Monarchs matter!

An important reminder:
When you and your family have special "everyday" moments together, be sure to capture them!

In addition to being home, where are your favorite places to be?
What memories do you want to have forever?
How can you focus on faces, emotions, gratitude attitudes?

This spontaneous candid photo captures a love for going to the library together, a connection with books from early childhood, a mama's devotion to modeling and teaching by example. What Littles wouldn't like to read/hear/see pictures about our solar system in a quiet library corner?

Get out there and preserve core memories for you and your family. At a park. At a concert. At a reunion. At a grocery store. Wherever you go together. Focus on the cropping and editing details after the shoot. Capture the moment!

My style is true to color, especially in nature but also for lifestyle photography. These bright windows were a bit challenging, but I'm loving the vibe. :)

Yay, I'm back, with soooo much to be thankful for today, August 1!

A 20 degree drop in temperature, a fresh breeze off the Mississippi River, the five acres of sunflowers at Marian's Place, bees pollinating, butterflies flitting, and the amazing details in God's creation just waiting for us to notice and appreciate! Much JOY! It's a new day and God has created it just for you too!

My early Friday morning "take-aways":
* Always look to the sun!
* Find joy in the tiniest bugs and plant "hairs"!
* Wait patiently for the blessings--the yellow finches and indigo buntings (they were hiding this morning at 7 a.m. but I'm not giving up on seeing them)!
* When life seems hazy, keep your eyes on Jesus. He makes all things new and perfectly clear.
* Stay hopeful. This was my first walk in months. After three tries this week, the Lord provided a morning of less tendinitis pain and vertigo, a sturdy cane, and determination to "get there early to see the beauty." He made me smile for so many reasons!

On an early breezy and Summer morning I visited Marian's Place where five acres of sunflowers have been planted for the past few years in her memory. To say it's a beautiful tribute to Tom's wife Marian who was challenged with dementia/Alzheimer's disease is an understatement. It's a strong reminder to us all to treasure each day and find joy in every person and every little daily thing. Photographers of all levels enjoy spending time here among the birds, butterflies, bees and those who visit to find inspiration and peace. I'm thankful to have this meditative park so close to home. As a caregiver for a parent who was challenged with dementia/Alzheimers, it's important to me to support research and care for families going through such difficult times. This is a peaceful place full of reminders of life's hopes and joys!

Our common milkweed is in full bloom and smells so sweet! Fritillaries, Painted Ladies and bees have been enjoying the hundreds of buds in our garden. Common milkweed is the host plant for Monarch butterflies to lay their eggs and feed on the leaves as the caterpillars grow through their stages. But so far, sadly, we haven’t had any Monarchs visit.

Asclepias syriaca, also known as common milkweed, is a flowering plant native to North America. It's known for its fragrant, pinkish-purple flowers that bloom from late spring to summer. The plant is a vital habitat and food source for insects that pollinate flowers and food crops. The plant has clusters of fragrant flowers that are 2.5–4 inches across and smell like pansies or violets. The flowers range in color from light pink to reddish purple.

Help save the Monarchs by planting common milkweed.
