The Lunar Eclipse : A Study in Light and Shadow

On the morning of March 3, I set my alarm every 30-45 minutes between 2am and 6am, stepping out into the quiet cold to watch the moon slowly move through Earth’s shadow. I had travelled all the way to Utah to increase my chances of optimal weather, and I’m so happy I did because it was cloudy and raining in St. Louis!

It took me DAYS to finally bring these images to a place where they feel right in print…and still true to how each moment felt.

Somewhere between the stillness of the night and the rhythm of returning to the same place over and over, it became more than just photographing an eclipse. It felt like watching time unfold.

This series follows that progression:

Approaching Shadow
Shadow Rising
Edge of Shadow
Red Silence
Return of Light
Holding the Light

Light in Motion

I stood mesmerized, watching sunlight ripple across the water as it refracted through the gentle movement of the ocean waves as they lapped toward the sandy beach ahead. For a moment it felt like the surface became a living canvas of light bending, looping, and drifting both over and beneath the surface of the water.

Sometimes the most magical scenes in nature happen in the quietest places, if we simply slow down long enough to notice them.

This limited edition fine art photograph is printed on archival metallic paper and available for traditional framing or face-mounted to museum-grade glossy acrylic glass.

Bryce Canyon Sunset

A brand new piece from Bryce Canyon, captured just two weekends ago.

On my very first evening in the amphitheater, I was lucky enough to witness one of the most peaceful sunsets I’ve ever seen, just a few days before the total lunar eclipse. As you can see, the moon is rising in the sky, nearly full.

I photographed six vertical frames with my Hasselblad X2D II 100C and XCD 2.8-4, 35-100E and stitched them together in Photoshop to create an ultra-high-resolution panoramic image.

This piece can be printed as a 40”×90” panoramic, or as a monumental triptych over ten feet wide at 60” tall, all without sacrificing any detail.

In a world that feels especially heavy right now, I hope this moment in nature brings a little quiet.

I’m humbled to share the biggest news yet of my career. My image, "Grand Haven Calm," has earned a Bronze Award in the Professional Photographers of America’s 2026 International Photographic Contest, placing among the top 28 images out of more than 2,200 submissions.

Even after more than two decades as a professional photographer, entering merit image reviews and competitions pushes me to see my work in new and elevated ways, allowing me to learn, grow, and evolve.

For six years, "The Narrows" has been my signature piece, dedicated to my brother Jesse, who we lost to pancreatic cancer on December 16, 2018. Now, "Consciousness Rising" represents the next chapter. I finished and printed this piece just one day after the seventh anniversary of his death, as I enter my seventh year as a fine art nature photographer.

These man-made steps ascend from the lava-covered basin at Kilauea's summit in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Like consciousness itself, they rise from primal depths toward understanding. Each step is a choice. Each landing is clarity.

I'm not leaving grief behind. I'm allowing it to transform into something new: rising from loss toward expanded awareness.

If you're in darkness, may this image remind you that the path forward is built one step at a time. And sometimes, the hardest climbs lead to the most profound transformations.
