These are a little different from my normal landscape photos you see on this page. These are images I recently shot of Edinburgh Manor in Scotch Grove, Iowa.

The first image, the one of the exterior at night, was a 12 and a half minute exposure which is my longest single exposure ever. The front of the building was lit entirely by the ambient light from the stars through the clouds which is why it took 12 and a half minutes to the picture. In retrospect I wish I could have turned the light off behind the building on the left side since it pulls focus but it is what it is.

These aren't amazing photos or anything but I really enjoy them because it was the first time I was lucky enough to see the Eminence wild horses. I'm guessing there aren't many places in Missouri where horses roam wild. Eminence, MO is one of them however. It took me around 10 trips to Shannon County before I saw them the first time yesterday afternoon.

This is probably my favorite image from Badlands National Park last September. I had it professionally printed at 16" x 24" and professionally framed and hung it in my office. It looks amazing with good framing.

The sky is partially that color due to the sunset but also due to the wild fires out west blowing in smoke and haze creating an otherworldly photo.

Yesterday I went to the sunflower field at Columbia Bottoms Conservation Area to take some much needed pics. Every time that I go too long without taking photos I quickly realize how much of a mental reset photography is for me. I've always been someone that can get lost in my thoughts really easily and photography without fail gets me out and into that thoughtless state of mind very easily.

I took many pictures but these are my top 4 I think.

Downtown STL from a birds eye perspective. I may go back tomorrow and fly in other spots down there. I found a few spots that I want to launch from and see what type of photo I can make from there.

Lately I've been getting more and more urges to do some more photography. Hopefully this means that my creative funk is starting to subside.

Yesterday I felt like going to back to Chain of Rocks bridge to see if I could accomplish a certain composition I had in my head. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do it but just the fact that I got out and did some photograph and ended up with a semi-decent pic is a win in my books, even if it's extremely similar to other photos I've taken there.

I've been in the biggest photography rut of my whole photography life. I would say that it goes back all the way to November really. I think the last landscape photo I took with my DSLR was around that time. Switching careers, my car needing some suspension repairs, coronavirus park shut downs, loss of motivation/creativity due to leaving photography as a job and now fear of finances due to who knows what the effect of the pandemic will be has prevented me from taking any landscape photos for months now. Hopefully I can schedule a vacation later this year to somewhere epic so I can do some landscape photography again.

In the mean time I've been trying some macro photography. Macro photography shows you a world of detail that your eye can't really see. I took these two images today using a reversal ring on one of my lens instead of using a true macro lens. A reversal ring costs around 15 dollars. A true macro lens costs around 1 - 2k or more. For the price, I can't complain about the results of the reversal ring though there is some fringing. And while these images don't do much for me creatively, they'll have to do for now. Maybe I'll start to narrow in on macro photography and start doing some more. It's the complete opposite of landscape photography, going from massive to miniscule.

There's something alluring about old mansions to me. This one pre-dates 1868 yet the exact age is unknown. What is known is that this 12 bedroom mansion has gone through a lot in it's life. The death of husband falling, or shoved (as it is presumed), over a staircase railing, multiple floods and lavish parties thrown by former owners that were barons of the steamship industry are just some of the memories and emotions that are attached to it. In 2019 the mansion was completely ravaged by floods leaving it in it's current state and undoing the near total restoration that was done just years earlier.
