Did you know that butterflies represent thyroid cancer because of the shape of the thyroid?
I didn’t either.
Did you know thyroid cancer colors are blue, pink, and purple?
I didn’t either.
Did you know your thyroid is an extremely important organ that controls body temperature, metabolism, heart rate, hormones, and the list goes on?
I didn’t either.
Did you know many people struggle with thyroid issues and cancers and may or may not even know it?
I didn’t either.
My point is, I didn’t even know thyroid cancer was a thing. And I would like to spread awareness.
Thyroid problems are extremely difficult. You have anxiety? You can’t put on weight? Can’t lose weight? Palpitations? Hot flashes? Freezing? Hair loss? Exhaustion? Infertility? The list goes on.
This diagnosis not only turned my life upside down, but also bettered it at the same time. I have a different outlook on life and myself. I never knew I was this strong to handle such pain or fear. I was that strong. I did that! I had 2 surgeries both being fairly invasive. I did those scans that I’m terrified of. I’ve been poked I don’t even know how many times. I did all that!
But I could not have done it without my family and wonderful boyfriend by my side.
I am extremely greatful that this isn’t a more aggressive or terminal cancer, but it’s still cancer.
There’s are no “good” cancers.
Ps: to my younger people, BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE. I was told to wait a whole year with them knowing it was “suspicious” and I had to fight to get a biopsy. If something isn’t right, fight to get an answer!
