I know I say this all the time, but those annual portraits are so important! Your kiddos are changing right before your eyes and you don’t even notice it. But when you see those photos side by side, it’s all right there. 💕

This kiddo has been my sidekick at *almost* every event or school I’ve photographed. He helps with setup and tear down, keeps older kids entertains with magic tricks and while they’re waiting for their turn, and even helps make little kids smile by playing peek-a-boo behind me. Show Jackson some love in the comments!!

I need your help! When it comes to school galleries, I love to provide a variety of poses. Not every school’s schedule allows me enough time to get seated and standing poses. So I want to know… if you had to choose, would you prefer a cute seated poses (like hand on the face or under the chin) or a standing pose (like the dress twirling one)? And how do you feel about detail shots like eyelashes and hair?

What do you value most? Or do you need them alllll? 😍

If you feel like time has been flying by, now is the time to preserve those memories! I am loving these beautiful matted folios for school photos, especially if you had fall and spring photos this year. They're perfect for seeing how much your child has grown in the past year, look beautiful on display and also store away easily for safe-keeping. If I've photographed your kids this year, send me a DM to get $25 off your order!

School photography is about more than just taking pictures. It’s about trust, consistency, and relationships.

Many of the schools I work with bring me back year after year because they know what to expect:
A smooth, organized picture day
A calm experience for their students
And images that reflect each child’s personality

That kind of consistency makes all the difference.

Picture day doesn’t have to feel chaotic.

One of the biggest concerns I hear from schools is how to plan their photo day schedule so that it works with their academic schedule. A well-planned photo day should run smoothly, stay on time, and feel easy for both staff and students.

How do I accomplish this? We look at your school day together, noting non-negotiable items like nap/rest times, recess, lunches, PE... Then I rough draft a schedule for you. Sometimes it takes a few drafts, but we land on a schedule that fits into your day rather than disrupting it. For large student bodies, this sometimes means spreading photo day out to two or three days in order to make it manageable for everyone.

Most large school photography companies spend 15–30 seconds with each child. Stand here. Look here. Smile. Done. No extra time to fluff hair, check jewelry, clean up telltale signs of a recent snack.

I plan for a minimum of 90 seconds per student. Why? Because kids of all ages need a moment to feel comfortable in front of the camera. That little bit of extra time helps kids relax, and that’s when the real smiles happen! It gives us both time to take a breath, engage, and even giggle a little.

The result: photos that actually reflect each child’s personality, not just a forced expression. Photos that feel authentic. Photos parents love!

If you’re a school looking for a more intentional picture day experience, this matters more than you think.
