**Well… I’ve been keeping a little bit of news. 🥉**

I’m delighted to share that two of my photographs received **three recognitions** in the 2025–2026 Best Photography Awards!

🌊 *Sanibel Exhale* received **Bronze in the Professional Abstract Photography category**, as well as an **Honorable Mention in Nature**.

☀️ *Peek-a-Boo Sunburst*, photographed in Arches National Park, also received an **Honorable Mention in Nature**.

I love that these two photographs were recognized together because they were created so differently.

*Peek-a-Boo Sunburst* was a fleeting moment—an unexpected alignment of light and landscape that lasted only seconds.

*Sanibel Exhale* was created using intentional camera movement, allowing the colors, light and rhythm of the Gulf to become something softer and more impressionistic—less about what the shoreline looked like and more about what it **felt** like to stand there.

One is about catching a moment.

The other is about letting one unfold.

But both came from the same thing: **paying attention.**

That idea has become increasingly important in my work—creating photographs that offer a little **sanctuary** from the noise, inviting us to pause, rediscover wonder, and simply breathe.

I’m incredibly grateful for this recognition—and especially honored to see *Sanibel Exhale* awarded in the Professional Abstract category.

And one of my favorite parts? The award-winning *Sanibel Exhale* is currently hanging on Sanibel Island itself at Kelson Gallery. 🌊

Beauty doesn’t always announce itself.

Sometimes it’s tucked close to the ground, covered in morning dew, waiting for someone to notice.

This Mexican Evening Primrose stopped me for exactly that reason.

The translucent pink. The delicate veins. Every tiny drop catching the light.

I photograph a lot of grand landscapes—the kind of places that immediately take your breath away.

But I think we’re given these smaller wonders, too.

Little reminders to pay attention.

To look closer.

To be grateful for what is right in front of us. 🌸

There are National Parks you visit…and then there are the ones you immediately start plotting how to get back to.

Bryce Canyon is one of those places for me.

There’s something almost otherworldly about watching the light move across those hoodoos—especially as the day begins to disappear and all that orange rock seems to glow from within.

After sharing my newest National Park yesterday, it has me thinking about all the parks that came before it…and the ones still waiting on my list. ❤️

So, for National Park Week, I have to ask:

Which National Park would you go back to tomorrow if you could?

And bonus question: which one is still at the very top of your wish list?

(Mine are Glacier, Mt. Rainier, and Olympic National Parks 🏔️)

Apparently I’m not the only one in the family collecting National Parks. 🐾😂

White Sands was my most recent “new” National Park—and Skylar’s very first.

And naturally, she came home with credentials.

We discovered that White Sands has a Bark Ranger program, so Sky was sworn in, received her official certificate and paw stamp, and solemnly agreed to uphold the Bark Ranger principles. I’m fairly certain she now outranks the rest of us. 😂

But beyond Sky’s illustrious new career, this place…

White Sands is unlike anywhere I’ve photographed.

Miles of brilliant white gypsum dunes roll toward the mountains, and as the sun gets lower, the landscape changes almost minute by minute—white to gold to blue, while the mountains catch the last pink light.

We stayed through sunset, wandering the dunes with our newly appointed ranger, and it was one of those evenings when I kept thinking, just one more photograph.

Some places make you look up.

The live oaks. The Spanish moss. The way the branches reach across the road and seem to meet in the middle.

There’s something about standing beneath trees that have been there far longer than any of us that puts things into perspective.

I remember being drawn not only to the symmetry of this view, but to the feeling of being completely surrounded by green—the kind of place that almost asks you to slow down as you pass through it.

The most remote National Park I’ve visited… and getting there was half the adventure.

For National Park Week, I’m revisiting one of the most memorable: Dry Tortugas National Park, nearly 70 miles west of Key West and surrounded by an almost unbelievable amount of blue.

We arrived by seaplane—which gave us that incredible first look at Garden Key and Fort Jefferson from above—then spent the day exploring the fort, wandering through its endless brick arches, and snorkeling in those gorgeous turquoise waters.

But one of my favorite discoveries was happening just next door.

Bush Key was closed to visitors for nesting season, and the skies around us were filled with birds. Among them were Brown Noddies, which nest in the island’s vegetation. Thousands of them return to the Dry Tortugas to nest, along with huge colonies of Sooty Terns.

I love that we couldn’t go there.

There’s something wonderful about visiting a National Park and being reminded that not every beautiful place is ours to enter. Sometimes protecting it means simply standing back and watching.

Forts. History. Wildlife. Snorkeling. A seaplane landing on the water.

This one was an adventure. 💙

How many National Parks can you recognize without reading the caption? 😉

National Parks Week began yesterday, which feels like a pretty good excuse to wander through a few of my favorite places again.

From standing beneath impossible walls of granite in Yosemite, to watching the earth quite literally come alive in Yellowstone… from Utah’s sculpted red rock to the jagged peaks of the Tetons — these are the kinds of places that remind me just how wonderfully small we are.

And, of course, I rarely experience them without a camera in my hand. 📷

One of my favorite things about photographing our National Parks isn’t simply capturing the grand view. It’s waiting for the little something extra:

A rainbow appearing in the mist.
A geyser catching the late-day light.
A mountaintop suddenly glowing.
That last sliver of sun touching a distant ridge.

The landscape gives you the setting.

The light gives you the photograph.

Happy National Parks Week to some of America’s greatest treasures. 🇺🇸

Now the important question: Which National Park has your heart?

Mine changes depending on the day. 😂
