A photo of four generations of women in my family has become one of my favorite ways to reflect on International Women’s Day.
This year, the photo means something different.
A week ago, we said goodbye to my grandmother. She was a woman whose joy, resilience, and quiet strength shaped generations. When people reached out after her passing, the words they used were strikingly similar: “She was always smiling.” “She was such a light.” “She made everyone feel happy.”
And it’s true.
She built a life centered on love, family, and community. She reminded us that strength doesn’t always come from the loudest voice in the room; sometimes it’s found in kindness, in perseverance, and in showing up for the people you love, day after day.
This year’s International Women’s Day theme is Accelerate Action. When I think about that, I think about the women who came before us, the ones who quietly accelerated change in their own ways: by creating opportunity for their children, by modeling resilience, and by teaching us what it means to lead with heart.
Because of women like my grandmother, my children will grow up knowing that they come from a long line of strong women.
Today I’m celebrating the women who shaped me, my grandmother, my mother, my daughters, and all the women who lift others as they rise.
Four generations. One legacy of strength, love, and resilience. 💜
Happy International Women’s Day and Happy Women’s History Month!
