An American Wigeon drake eyes me cautiously as he floats the water along the banks of the North Pond at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge in Rodanthe, NC. For some reason this drake, his hen, and another drake didn’t seem particularly scared of humans and let me get rather close to them.

An American Wigeon hen eyes me cautiously as she floats the water along the banks of the North Pond at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge in Rodanthe, NC. For some reason this hen, her drake, and another drake didn’t seem particularly scared of humans and let me get rather close to them.
