The ISS will fly within 1 degree of straight over Los Angeles on Tuesday evening.�
How To See It
�Go outside by 8:20. The sun will have set just about 30 minutes earlier, so there will still be a little light in the sky, but not enough to interfere with your observations. Choose a location with good visibility to the Northwest, down to about 30 degrees above the horizon. Start looking around there for a dot moving directly toward you. It will be dim at first, but will grow in brightness as it gets higher, becoming crazy bright as it passes directly overhead (for Los Angeles observers) at 8:28. It will be so bright that you’ll think it’s an airplane, but it won’t blink, it won’t turn, and it won’t make any noise. At astronomical magnitude -3.7, it will outshine every star in the sky (but not Venus, which blazes in the west).��It will take about 5 minutes to go from horizon to horizon. The flyover will be broadly visible over all of Southern California at about the same time. Whether you live in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, or Bakersfield, you’ll be able to see it.
