Richard Moore Photography

Richard Moore Photography Fine art and historical photography, specializing in "Twice-seen Images" of past and present. "Twice-seen images" were born.

I began photographing in the 1950s, later studying with Paul Caponigro and working several seasons as an archaeological photographer in Israel and Cyprus. On the digs I became fascinated with photographing the passage of time, shooting daily from the same tripod locations while layers of the past were scraped away. In 2005 I came across photos of Pawtuckaway Mountain, made in the 1890s by an eccen

tric farmer on the mountain, near my home in Deerfield, New Hampshire. I got the idea to set my tripod in the same camera locations, reshoot, and digitally merge the two images. I have done projects at Pawtuckaway State Park, Odiorne Point State Park, the Wentworth-Coolidge State Historic Site, Franconia Notch State Park, and Monhegan Island, as well as projects for individuals.

Where the Winooski leapt from its bed to inundate the Intervale Community Farm with four feet of water, twice what it got from hurricane Irene. The farm, where we volunteer, grows 25 acres of organic crops, all lost to the flood, though many plants may survive and bear new fruit. We did manage an emergency harvest of early carrots, beets, and onions. Just one among many stories.
