Really nice area-wide sunset tonight. I made a quick run to one of my frequent spots, kept my dashcam rolling, and sped up the video after. Beautiful skies all across New England, and probably beyond.

Believe it or not, but seeing loon babies (especially riding on a parent's back in the water) was still on my photography bucket list... until yesterday. I spotted a nest while driving by at 50 mph, banged a Uie and headed back. An unfathomable win I wasn't expecting or looking for. Cuteness overload. Enjoy.

Wrapping up a busy Thursday afternoon of weather. Headed up to Lake Winnipesaukee to intercept the line of storms then drove back through and in front of them to Portsmouth so I could get hit again.

The rainbows and sun-lit mammatus clouds after made me feel a certain way.

Venus snuck behind the moon for just over an hour. This is a timelapse of both ends of the occultation, shot from New Hampshire. Next time you can see this in the contiguous United States is October of 2029.

Nice planetary alignment in the evening twilight on Tuesday with Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury visible with the waxing crescent moon. Later this afternoon (June 17) Venus will disappear behind the left (dark) side of the moon around 4:00 PM in New England and reappear on the right (sunlit) side around 5:06 PM.

We won't see a Venus/moon occultation again in the contiguous US until October 10, 2029.

It was a foggy evening along the Southern Maine coast on Friday with temperatures in the mid 60s while it was warm and muggy everywhere else. I found the battleground between sunshine and fog in Kennebunkport, then drove out to Kennebunk Plains to try and catch some lightning on an isolated cell that popped up just before sunset. Saw one cloud-to-ground bolt as I drove in and nothing else. 😭 Still pretty!
