Went on an adventure up to Midcoast Maine for fall foliage and blueberry barrens, but started and ended the day at lighthouses. Sunrise at Owls Head, sunset at Marshall Point.

Just your typical mid-October nighttime shelf cloud and flash of lightning on the New Hampshire Seacoast... Actually wasn't expecting any lightning from this since it didn't produce any as it pushed across Massachusetts at 60+ MPH but it flashed six times as it met the ocean.

A rare-for-our-area mid-October thunderstorm came through in the wee hours of the morning. As tired as I’ll be later today, I had to chase it. At 47°F this wasn’t the coldest thunderstorm of the year - we had one on March 31 with a temp of 38°F.

It isn't much, but it's lightning in the middle of a 47ºF night on the Maine/New Hampshire border in mid-October. Strangely, not the coldest thunderstorm we've had this year (March 31st was 38ºF).

As the storm moved off some low clouds redeveloped just over Portsmouth with what looks like asperitas clouds above.

Part 2 of my October 7 fall foliage adventure across New Hampshire and Vermont. This one is all Vermont with images from the towns of Waterford, Barnet, Peacham, East Montpelier, Randolph, Killington, and Woodstock.

Of the 534 miles driven, 48 of them were on Vermont's dirt roads.
