The countdown is on for Illinois hunters!!! 🦌 Take time to get more practice in and when the time comes wait for the perfect shot! We hope you don’t need us but if something doesn’t go as planned have my number saved we are only a call away!!(Penny is itching to put more deer on the tailgate!) Advice is free and if you are unsure of your shot give a shout and I will try to help.
Things to remember after the shot:
1. Gather as much information as you can!
How did the deer react, did the arrow pass through, what was your projectile, how far was the shot, how high up were you where was the deer hit? (There is a chart we use in the pictures)
2. Wait times are very important!!! When you start to look DO NOT WALK ON TOP OF THE TRACK/BLOOD TRAIL stay to the side and mark it with flagging tape or toilet paper as you go!
3. Contact your neighbors we will not track without permission!!!! This is best done before season and again when you need to access their property.
4. Public land tracks can only be done after dark with a dog.
5. When in doubt back out!!! DO NOT GRID SEARCH it makes it harder for the dog to work through and adds time.
6. Mark your last spot with something man made that will be easy to see in the dark or day time!!! I cant tell you how many times we get there and spend a ton of time looking for a stick….. also gps markers float around so dont rely on a marker on your phone!
7. When you call or text leave as much of the information as possible so I can call or message back with what I think!
Name, location, time of shot, if you have looked how far you have gone and pictures of what you have seen all help!
Good luck this year and stay safe out there your family wants you to come home at night!!
