Daffodils on an overcast day. The key to sharpness is holding the camera steady. Very steady. Here I used a table-top tripod for stability. It got me low with the steadiness my hands could never provide.

We have Blue Birds again. The key to this photo is in the selection of the background before taking the photo. #1 No distractions in the background. #2 Sufficient distance between the subject and the background gives a creamy out of focus area.

Went out today with the drone. There is a housing development in progress - 147 homes. My goal was to get an aireal view with all the equipment potential roads, sewers laid out.

But it was windy. Too drone windy. The wind took it & took it down. 1/2 hour later I found it beeping mournfully to be rescued from the ditch it occupied.

Lesson. Know the capabilities of your equipment. Don't push the limits unless you're ready to pay the price.

The last year has been a dry year for me photographically. A lot of "been there" & "done that" sapped my creativity and enthusiasm. To put a cherry on top of my demotivation, a couple of health issues kiboshed my intermittent moments of get-up-and-go.

Lesson learned: do it while you can. Bob, make the most of each day.

I'll be posting some new stuff in the next week.

Today's software can work wonders. The bluebird was shot at ISO 25,600. 1/500 @ f/5.6. The detailed images are of the adjusted photo before and after processing in Topaz DeNoise AI. The larger image is the finished product.

Post-processing of our images can make a big difference. Here is an image from Easter Sunday Morning Sunrise 2004 at the Grand Canyon. The original unadjusted image and the same image processed with 2020 software.

Sometimes moving the camera can give pleasing effects. Combining a slow shutter speed while rotating the camera produced this abstract image of roses.

It is all about the light. Two photos of the same subject. One image has hard direct light with deep shadows. The other image has softer light, as the sun was behind a cloud. Choosing "your" light changes the tone and impact of your image.

Making lemonade. While reviewing old images to keep or discard I came across this out of focus "mistake" from the old Univest Grand Prix.

I wondered if this would work as an "artistic" rendering of the event. Post-processing in Topaz Studio 2 - Remix.

Here are the steps I use for my bird pics. The camera and lens are less important than the technique. Nikon D500 w/ Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6. Stabilized on a larger tripod with a gimbal head. Minimum shutter speed of 1/1000 to minimize subject movement. If the light permits 1/2000 all at f/5.6. Use the lowest ISO to get a good exposure. Spot metering. Post-processing in Topaz DeNoise and Topaz Adjust AI. Hope this helps. [Below is my birding set-up]
