Did you know that fireworks are prohibited within the City and Borough of Sitka?

Under Sitka General Code 9.25.030 the use or discharge of fireworks is prohibited within municipal limits, with limited exceptions for authorized displays and other permitted uses.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in keeping our community safe, protecting property, and being considerate of neighbors and pets.

Fourteen years have passed since Lael Grant disappeared, leaving her family, friends, and community still searching for answers and hoping for closure.

As time goes on, we continue to ask anyone who may know something about Lael’s disappearance to come forward. Even the smallest detail, something that may not have seemed important at the time, could make a difference in this case.

Proper Display of Disability Parking Placard
If you are using an Alaska disability parking placard:

• Hang the placard from your rearview mirror while your vehicle is parked in a designated disability parking space.

• Make sure the placard is clearly visible so it can be identified.

• Remove the placard from the rearview mirror before driving. Leaving it hanging while operating the vehicle can obstruct your view.

• Use the placard only when transporting the person to whom it was issued. Alaska allows someone transporting the placard holder to use designated disability parking when the holder enters or exits the vehicle.

• Check the expiration date and make sure the placard is current.

Please Remember: Display it when parked hanging from the review mirror. Remove it before driving. Drive safe.

Sitka’s landslide risk level increased from low to medium around 7 p.m. tonight (9-8-26). That’s according to a local dashboard that tracks rainfall data to determine landslide risk.

A “medium” risk level means isolated landslides have occurred in Sitka with similarly intense rainfall in the past.

If medium or high risk level is reached, the level is retained for six hours, meaning Sitka remains at medium risk level until 1 a.m.
