Meet Rhea. 🖤🐴

A dark beauty with a quiet presence and a way of stealing hearts without even trying.

There's something special about a horse who doesn't need to demand attention to capture it. Rhea simply shines in her own beautiful way.

With the care and training from Stevie and Taylor at LeCain Performance Horses, she continues to do just that. Quietly making her mark and leaving a little piece of herself in the hearts of those lucky enough to know her.

Some horses are unforgettable without ever needing to be the center of attention. Rhea is one of them. 🖤

There’s something extra special about photographing a horse when you know the person who loves him.

Meet Takoda. 💙

He belongs to a good friend of mine at the barn, and the two of them just fit. They’re the crackle to the pop, the ice cream to the cake, the kind of pair where it’s hard to imagine one without the other.

Some horses come into our lives and become so woven into who we are that they’re no longer simply “our horse.” They’re our partner, our comfort, our laughter, and sometimes the one who understands us without a single word. That’s Takoda and his person.

So when I had the opportunity to photograph Takoda as part of our barn family portraits, this one felt a little extra special. And goodness, did this handsome boy understand the assignment. 💙🐴

Meet Jordan + Callie. 🖤
Some pairs simply sing when they’re together. There’s a rhythm between them, a quiet understanding that doesn’t need much explanation.
Callie may not be the most openly affectionate mare. She might not be the one constantly asking for kisses or crawling into your pocket. But that doesn’t stop Jordan from making absolutely certain that Callie knows just how deeply she is loved.
And maybe that’s part of what makes their relationship so beautiful. Jordan loves Callie exactly as she is, while Callie has her own way of saying, “You’re my person.”
Because sometimes love between a horse and her girl isn’t loud.
Sometimes it’s a soft muzzle pressed against your face.
And sometimes, that says everything. 🖤🐴

What do you say about the love of your life? Your inspiration, your counterpart… the one who somehow became part of the very fabric of who you are?

Wiley is all of that and so much more.

He’s my adventure partner and my comfort. My challenge and my confidence. He’s taught me to be brave when I wasn’t sure I could be, to trust myself a little more, and to appreciate the quiet moments just as much as the big ones.

He’s carried me through fields, forests, hunt country, Gettysburg, and more than a few chapters of life. And somewhere along the way, Why Not Wiley stopped simply being my horse.

He became part of me.

So when it was time to update the Pixels by Pixley Photography logo, there really was only one horse who could inspire it. ❤️

Because so much of what I love about photographing horses comes from loving this horse.

My muse.
My counterpart.
My Wiley Bear.
My once-in-a-lifetime horse.

He is absolutely everything. 🐴❤️

And if someday someone asks me where all of this began, I think the answer will always be…

Meet Bull. ❤️

The kindest Thoroughbred with a presence that makes you want to stop and take him in.

His owner is standing at the doorway to retirement, and as anyone who has prepared for that next chapter knows, there is always something to do. Plans to make. Things to organize. A future to get ready for.

But sometimes, in the middle of preparing for what comes next, you need to stop and appreciate **what is right in front of you.**

The day.
The season.
The horse who has shared the journey with you.

Because life has a funny way of moving us toward the next chapter before we’ve fully appreciated the one we’re still living.

So this was Bull’s moment. A beautiful horse, a beautiful season, and a reminder to stop long enough to remember it. ❤️🐴

There’s nothing quite like a young lady in a beautiful blue dress with her best, sharp-dressed man to parade her around. 💙🐴

And make no mistake, this girl LOVES her horse, Tonka.

There’s something so special about photographing a horse girl with the horse who holds such a huge piece of her heart. The dress may be a little fancier than their usual attire, but the connection between these two needs no dressing up.

Together, they make a striking pair, whether she’s wearing a prom dress or show clothes and Tonka is simply wearing his handsome self.

Because the best accessory a horse girl can have will always be her horse. 💙

Mel + Biggie 🤎

Biggie’s heart is every bit as huge as his 18-hand body. But as big as he is, his world seems to get a whole lot smaller when Mel is beside him.

These two have had a year, for sure. A year of challenges, patience, waiting, and finding their way back to one another. And now, they’re finally reunited as riding partners.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But looking at Biggie, I think the feeling goes both ways.

Because this big, beautiful boy?

He only has eyes for Mel. 🤎🐴

And sometimes, the most beautiful part of photographing horses isn’t the horse at all. It’s capturing the relationship between two souls who have chosen each other.

Meet Angela and Dizzle.

There’s something special about photographing the partnerships I get to see beyond the camera. These aren’t simply portraits of a horse and a rider. They’re little records of relationships built through countless rides, quiet moments, challenges, victories, and all the ordinary days in between.

Angela and Dizzle made this one look easy. They are a fabulous pair a beautiful horse who clearly understood her assignment, and another moment from this barn family that I’m so happy to preserve. Because barns change. Horses come into our lives and sometimes leave them far too soon. People move on, seasons change, and years have a funny way of slipping past us. Photographs give us a way to keep a little piece of it.
