Excerpt from Ash Wednesday chapter: "We believe that Holy Communion is a clear channel of grace. As we receive the bread and cup, Christ chooses to be present with us and in us. The table is open to all, for we all need grace." Please share this book with someone who might enjoy it as we approach Lent.

From "Take Bread and Cup" Even if you think just of the good things in your life, though some you worked hard for, most you did not: your measure of health, your friends, your church, your nation . . . on and on. They are God’s gifts to you. If you try to total them, you will probably conclude, you could never have earned all that. We are in debt to God way over our heads." Do you have your copy of this book yet?

Excerpt from "Take Bread and Cup, then Serve!" Probably not everyone on Bethlehem’s hill that night was open to divine messages. Some shepherds were more worried about the weather or the staleness of their bread. But these lifted their faces to what is of God! And if we, this Christmas, like them, are open to a new sense of wonder, we too may know the glory of the Lord shining about us and hear the angel’s message.

Slow at First Methodist today --- We thought the Sunday before Christmas would have good foot traffic for the signing but there are just too many entry points and exits at FUMC. Surely we missed a lot of those attending church there today. Barnes & Noble still has some signed copies.

Excerpt from "Take Bread and cup, then Serve!" What overrides our differences, what undergirds our unity, is Jesus’ way of compassion: especially for the poor, the hungry and the homeless. This is the compassion that he over and over taught and lived, giving himself for others. Barnes & Noble began selling today. Dr. Webb will sign for two hours tomorrow or until they are gone.

Book display is up at Barnes & Noble -- 150 books, while they last. If you want to reserve in advance, you can call them to do so. What a great Christmas gift!

Excerpt from "Take Bread and Cup, Then Serve!" We believe God’s unfailing love opens to us, in the coming of our Christ, full liberation. Of course there will still come rough circumstances. We may get ill or suffer cruelty or be lonely or have a sad parting. And God does not change circumstances. What God offers you is... a new you, able to deal with the circumstances in the love you have through Christ.
