Hi friends!
Many have asked and yes I did disappear 😭 Honestly, I needed a break. I’ve been shooting professionally since I was 16 and I’m 24 now. I was very burnt out.
However, yesterday I second shot and did some content creation with my good friend Lauren Chitwood Photography and had SO much fun. The spark is definitely back. But it also made me realize how much I prefer weddings and styled shoots versus seniors and families. Don’t get me wrong, I’m so grateful to have been a part of so many people’s special moments like graduating or starting a family. But when I started photography I always wanted to do something else and I quickly turned a passion into a job that was no longer fulfilling to me. I’m grateful for the business of course. I’m so blessed to have been able to make a living in the arts. But when I started dreading my next photoshoot, I knew I needed to take a step back.
And I did! For nearly 6 months… I needed to reevaluate what I wanted to do. Figure out what type of work made me happy and excited. To most people, photography is just for getting nice photos of you or your family when the time for needing pictures comes. But for someone like me who always wanted to do styled and editorial work, the lack of creativity really got to me. Not that there’s no room for it in the seniors/family/etc space, just that it wasn’t the case for me and my clients at the time. Not enough people wanted to get extra with me!!!! My favorite times were when I did creative minis.
Weddings have always been a favorite of mine and as I’m sure many of you know, I’ve always been in the social media space. Yesterday, I had the chance to do something new in the wedding world (content creation) and absolutely loved it. I picked up the dslr a couple of times sure, but I was mainly focused on capturing the special moments and details through an iPhone point of view. A lot of people are preferring that to a wedding film these days and I get why. Social media is huge. People want to do that trend, use that sound, etc. for their instagram and tiktok. Casual is IN! With all respect to videographers because i’ve done that too and it’s definitely the hardest. 😭
But to make a long story short, I got burnt out and had to take a step back from photography BUT when needed, I’ve been there because photography and creation is second nature. It’s just simply what I know and I know it well!! I’ve worked on some editorial stuff for the friends down to get a little weird. And I’ve now worked a beautiful wedding from a different point of view. And my visions for the future of my business are becoming a lot more clear than they were the end of last year when I vanished. SO with that being said, if you’re curious about wedding day content creation, please reach out! And maybe hire me! If you need a photographer, Lauren and I are always an awesome pair. However, as I said, I’ve always loved a wedding and I’m still available for wedding photography. I’m also available for styled portrait shoots. (Even for the senior who wants to be a lil different and extra) I just need you to be creative with me!!! If you or anyone you know are down for more creative styled shoots of any kind (even families!) please send them my way! I just couldn’t keep doing the sit straight and smile pretty vibes anymore. I’m an editorial girl at heart!!
As of now, my website is down. I’m going to start rebuilding and adding to a new portfolio that better represents the things I want to do. But please feel free to reach out via messenger or DM me on instagram! (alexisburlesonphotography)
Here’s a photo from my recent shoot with my friend Jayce. Grateful that he always fuels my creativity and has for years. We’ve always been on the same wavelength and I’m so happy that he always comes to me for creative consultation for his projects. 🫶🏻
