The Mist Trail. Because there was still ice on Half Dome, I sadly wasn't allowed to climb that iconic mountain. Luckily, Yosemite has plenty of other beautiful hikes on offer. I was very lucky to find a double rainbow under the thunderous Vernal Falls!

Release the river! I was lucky to visit Yosemite National Park in spring, when the water flowing from the many waterfalls in the park create a spectacular sight. Yosemite Falls was my go to spot to setup my tripod and let that long exposure shot loose!

Iconic Yosemite National Park. Ever since my passion for photography and hiking grew, I wanted to go there. A few years ago I was finally able to travel to California and be amazed by beautiful Yosemite!

Consolation prize... Finding deer to photograph in the National Park was not easy! And when I finally snuck up on one, it bolted when I got my camera ready. This squirrel was following me around for quite a bit, watching me fail, so I took some pictures of the little guy. It was always chillin' in the sunlight, piercing through the thick woodland canopy.

True detective. This trip to the USA was the first time I took a macro lens with me, and I got a little bit nuts with it! But it was also a lot of fun exploring the forest, looking for colourful shrub, interesting textures, and scary faces in the tree bark...

It's hard to convey how massive these sequoia trees are with a few pictures. Some of them are big enough to walk, or even drive through! Good hiding spots too. Find me and the other visitors on these pictures to get a sense of scale...

Burn baby burn! I was very surprised to see a lot of big Sequoia trees half burned in the National Park. After talking to the rangers, I learned that these trees actually need fire to successfully survive and reproduce! Smaller, weaker trees might not survive but the big trees have thick, fire-resistant bark and release their seeds when on fire. That way new trees can begin to grow and keep the forest healthy. Nature is awesome!

Sequoia National Park was my first stop in the Sierra Nevada. Know for it's giant sequoia trees, it is a beautiful forest filled with huge old trees, massive rocks, some pretty quiet meadows and waterfalls, and a bunch of wildlife. A perfect place to chill out for a day and slowly get into John Muir's footsteps.

San Fran is an awesome city, and I had so much fun, but I was too excited to finally visit Yosemite National Park! That's why, looking back, I did not get the iconic San Fran pictures I wanted. But walking up and down these hills all day did get my hiking legs ready for all the National Parks I was going to visit next!

The first thing I like to do, when visiting a new country, is try out the local food! For the USA I had all the fast-food chains on my mind, because most of them are absent here in Europe (lookin' at you In-N-Out). But San Francisco was all about farmers markets. Fresh oysters, lobsters, and all the cheese! I was not complaining...

Looking back on my first visit to the USA! After watching American shows and movies for decades I was very excided to experience the states myself. My journey started in San Fran, doing all the classic touristy stuff, but trying to do them my way... Without capturing everything and finding some original angles to places and people.
