Some of my favorite photos happen in everyday life. Walking your usual route. Sharing coffee at your favorite spot. Laughing over that same boardgames you always play. Those are the moments that tell your story. Simple, real, and full of meaning. Ordinary moment that end up meaning everything.

Even without a camera in the room, weddings and elopements take time. Getting ready, transitioning between venues, gathering family for portraits, and celebrating at your reception… none of these things can (or should!) be rushed.

That’s why creating a realistic timeline is so important. When you allow space for each part of the day, it feels smooth, fun, and stress-free. As your photographer, I’ll help build a timeline that makes sense and ensures you can enjoy every part of your wedding day.

I’ll never forget a conversation I had with my Grandma Jean when I was still a teenager. We were going through her closet when she pulled out a pink gingham dress and with a wide smile said, “Did you know this is my wedding dress?”

She then told me about the day she married my grandpa Bill. It was a simple courthouse wedding with only two witnesses followed by a nice dinner. No big fuss, no big expenses. It was exactly right for them. She told me how she never understood the idea that your wedding day is the “best day of your life.” For her, she knew that all of the best moments were yet to come. A lifetime of love, family, adventures, and memories.

That perspective has always stuck with me, especially now as a wedding photographer. Yes, wedding days are beautiful, important, and worth documenting, but every day after has the potential to be your best day ever.

All of that to say, I love photographing anniversary celebrations. They are such a reminder that the lifetime you build with the person you love is what matters most.

Happy 20 years, Brandi & Phil!

Engagement Session Tip 💡
Don’t think of it as a “photoshoot”, think of it as a date with your favorite person. When you’re doing something that feels natural and you, I’ll be able to capture that magic in photos!

Grab coffee at your favorite spot, wander through your go-to park, splash around at the beach, or make pancakes in your kitchen. Whatever feels like you two.

For Kaylie and Zach, we went back to the spot where Zach proposed: the Mukilteo Lighthouse. When the location already has a story to tell, the photos are all the more meaningful.

I’ve been thinking about all the little moments that make a wedding day feel unforgettable and they’re not always what you’d expect.

Maybe it’s the quiet pause before the ceremony. Or the way your partner looked at you during your vows. Or that one cousin who really went for it on the dance floor.

What was your favorite moment from your wedding day? Or if you’re not married yet, what are you most excited for? Hair + Makeup:

I’m not technically supposed to have favorites, but Becky and Seth? Yeah… they’re absolutely one of mine. Hands-down one of the happiest, most in-love couples I’ve ever photographed.
Five years ago, during the pandemic, I captured their beautiful backyard wedding in Texas. They told me they’d throw a big celebration someday with all the people who couldn’t be there.
Well, someday finally came and the wildest part? We all somehow ended up moving to Northwest Washington. So five years to the day, I got to photograph their long-overdue (and very joyful) reception. What a full-circle moment. 🥹💛
Reuniting with them after all this time, in a completely new chapter of life, was such a beautiful reminder of how love has a way of coming full circle and how lucky I am to do what I do.

The weather was great during this, but a storm earlier in the day threw us a curveball and led to a last-minute location change. Honestly? I think it turned out even better than the original plan.
The Mount Vernon Courthouse was such a stunning backdrop for newlywed portraits. A reminder that sometimes plan B ends up being exactly what you didn’t know you needed.
When it comes to outdoor elopements and portrait sessions, flexibility and a little creative thinking go a long way. đź’Ť

Engagement sessions are so much more than just a nice-to-have. They’re actually one of the best investments you can make in feeling confident, connected, and ready for your wedding day. It’s not just a bonus—it’s something that can actually make your wedding day photos even better.
