Blake Neff, former right-hand man to Charlie Kirk for Politico, in South Phoenix July 2026. Neff, once fired from Fox for racist tweets, hosts a Turning Point podcast that discusses conspiracies; now he’s the subject of several regarding his involvement in the death of Kirk. Wild stuff. Read Ian Wards’ last story for Politico Magazine to learn more.

In 2025, pro runner, coach and lululemon athlete Phily Bowden’s leg busted which is hard for anyone, but is probably a *lot* harder for someone who lives their life in front of a camera. I met up with her and her coach Jonathan Green last week at Lake Mary for the NYT Well: her recovery is well in hand. I asked her about what she did to keep up her cardiovascular fitness as she rehabbed. She mentioned that she had to swim, not just that she swam, but that she had to learn *how* to swim. That’s some significant dedication. Another fun hobby she picked up over the last year: Birding! I helped her get eyes on her Merlin Bird ID bird of the day (TUVU) which was fun and a lifer for her!

Mariscos El Profe, in a sun-bleached concrete parking lot off Buckeye and the 17, is probably the best seafood spot I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying in quite some time. Fresh shrimp, octopus and fish with perfect texture, well executed technique, and canny seasoning. Eduardo Ruiz and his crew of variously Sinaloense staff have made a jewel in the desert. It joins the lauded Bacanora among Phoenix’s two entries in The New York Times’s new list, “41 of the Greatest Mexican Restaurants Across the United States”. July 2026, Phoenix for the Times.
