Like a moth to a flame I cannot resist a classic sign // first opened in the 1950s this Tacoma hamburger stand is a an example of the “Googie” architectural style popular at the time and is one of the few remaining unmodified examples in Tacoma.

Fun fact on how the name came about “The name “Frisko Freeze” was coined by original owner, Perry W. Smith while listening to sports commentator Leo Lassen call a Seattle Rainiers vs San Francisco Seals baseball game. Lassen referred to the San Francisco team as “the boys from Frisco” - and with a slight modification of the spelling, Smith had his business name 🍔

Tacoma! You’re quirky and a total delight - big shoutout to the Tacoma Photo Club for inviting me out to host a photo walk around the Proctor neighborhood - I spent more time yapping than shooting but still found some gems and great to connect with the Tacoma photo community - I gotta come back and do a walk downtown

Hello from Tacoma // Back to School - fire up those Trapper Keepers and Varsity Jackets and check out the coolest high school I’ve ever seen. Built in the late 1800s as a hotel project for the Northern Pacific Railroad add then purchased by the school district after a fire tore through in 1904. This High School and its 1950’s sports bowl are sometimes best known as the location for the hit 1999 RomCom “10 Things I Hate About You”

Fun fact - S**o was originally named for being located “South of the Dome” but since the King Dome is no more, S**o is used as an acronym to represent “South of Downtown”

Hope you guys enjoyed my time exploring this neighborhood, here’s a couple final photos I made on the way home as the sun sank behind the city 🏙️ - lmk if you have any favs and be sure and go to my profile and see the whole set which was made over a couple hours on a warm July evening 🧩

S**o Neons // this South Seattle location wasn’t even the shot I really wanted but it sure was a nice bonus to catch right as the sun sank below the Olympics on a Wednesday night in early July. If you make it to the end of the carousel you’ll find the set up for the shot I really came down here to make 🍞

Seattle’s Fourth Avenue never gets the shine that her posh cousin, 5th Avenue, revels in but I like her vibes nonetheless // slide through for the brand new multi caption experience ✨

This siren tavern sign might be my favorite seattle neon sign 👨🏻‍🚒

Located conveniently across the street from the…this firehouse

Hey now, you’re an all-star
Get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star
Get the show on, get paid
(And all that glitters is gold)
Only shootin’ stars break the mold

I call this one “Aston Martin…with trash” 🦝

Caption this one yourself

Gosh so many caption to write but I’m gonna do it

Sky is setting itself up for a nice sunset - when I looked at this photo later I noticed the siren signs reflection in the windshield of the cyber truck and wished I’d seen that when I was standing here as I think that would be a nice shot

If you drive a convertible…I got a spot for you

EV LOVE ⚡️

This is a weird street - I think it’s not a real street but instead like a bus only street but it’s good for biking on because there’s not really any traffic and it’s got a ton of murals and stuff that make it visually arresting

This is a fun photo and I’ll probably start the next S**o set with this one or something similar and so it’s a bit redundant but also who makes it to the end - and that’s you, enjoy one of my favs

Signs of the times // S**o on a Wednesday - couple atmospheric scenes along Seattle’s 4th Avenue.

This first spot was originally a steak spot called Andy’s Diner which apparently was pretty legendary. I’ve been here now and it’s pretty fun, it’s a Chinese restaurant and a karaoke spot inside all these train cars that have been hooked together in a labyrinthine way with bar that feels ripped straight out of a David Lynch movie.

Keep scrolling for a cool firehouse, the price of gas in early July, a vintage burger spot, fried fish, a sort of deco Denny’s and the reason why there’s probably all these cool signs along this stretch of 4th Ave 🪧
