Hello Yellow!

Here's the second version of Artsmart Design's logo animation. My friend Alfredo Garma rebranded his graphic design business and I thought it would be fun to animate his logo. I lit this set with warm, directional light to be reminiscent of light streaking across a sandy beach in the late afternoon. Ah Hawaii, I miss you so.

My dear friend Alfredo recently rebranded his graphic design business and I decided to animate his logo in a few different ways. This version features a rainbow, which has special significance for the people of Hawaii, where Alfredo’s business is based. If you’ve been to Hawaii you know that it’s possible to see at least one rainbow every day. Did you know that rainbows were also an important part of Hawaiian culture? A male petroglyph with a rainbow is interpreted as the “keeper of the land” and its people. A female petroglyph with a rainbow is an indication that she is honored and respected.

Rainbows are so prevalent and important in Hawaii that one of its nicknames is the Rainbow State, and the University of Hawaii’s athletic teams used to be known simply as the “Rainbows” but now are called the “Rainbow Warriors” and “Rainbow Wahine (women).”

Most know the rainbow as a universal symbol of hope and the promise of better times to come. I think we all can use some of that right about now.

When grocery shopping recently, I grabbed these cat treats from on impulse. Once I got them home I was excited to see they were fish-shaped because I’d been looking all over for fish-shaped treats to animate. Well, soon into setting up the animation I realized they were actually drumstick-shaped. Oops! This makes sense because the treats are chicken flavored, but sometimes we just see what we want to see

Anyhow, loves them and they’re now the high-value special treats for her

Please VOTE and make it rain - democracy, equality, justice. In Seattle, ballots are being mailed today. If you’ve already received yours, please mail it soon or drop it into an OFFICIAL drop-off box. Make your voice be heard, you matter! Your vote could influence our lives for generations

I made this video for the challenge posted by . I’m new to animation and I’d been playing with the concept of sun, clouds and rain. When I heard about the challenge, it was the perfect opportunity to spread an important message and play with paper at the same time! It all came together after that.

Feeling even more anxious today than usual (Debate? Pandemic? Systemic racism and sexism?) so I’m sending out a bit of positivity. Together we can create change, but it takes many pencils, er, people ❤️

It’s the Kokeshi Kan-Kan! Another collaboration with Lei Ann from . Kokeshi are simple dolls handcrafted from wood in Japan. These kokeshi decided to do a little dance Rockettes-style (if they had legs) 😆 These are extra-special because they have dried beans inside to make them rattle. Check them (and more) out at Momo in Seattle’s International District.
