The Core Mausoleum is the final resting place of John H Core and his wife. Core was a successful farmer and businessman, being one of the wealthiest citizens in Norfolk at that time. Upon his death in 1910, he allocated $100,000 (approx. $2.6 million in today’s dollar) from his estate to be used to build the mausoleum. It was constructed in 1915 using a Greek revival architecture. On the outside of the mausoleum, there are 2 large bronze sculptures.

This is my first trip to the Outer Banks this year. I was fortunate to have clear skies early one morning to photograph the Milky Way. I got to Bodie Island Lighthouse at 3AM and started shooting. It was freezing cold and breezy, but I was happy with how the pictures came out.
