While the pandemic has caused us to hunker down and severely cut down our outdoor activities, we’re lucky to be next to one of the most scenic drives in the world, the Pacific Coast Highway, and have been making the most of it. We found this nice secluded spot along the CA1 Pacific Coast Highway a while back to enjoy sunset.

Nice catch!

It was cold every day, but the first few days, the winds were absolutely crazy! We didn’t really venture out much into the lake, but kept hugging the shorline to ensure a smooth ride and making sure that the boat doesn’t topple over and that we don’t end up in freezing water. But almost everyday we got lucky and saw interesting behavior despite restricting ourselves to limited parts of the lake.

Looking majestic!
Once the crazy winds died down after a couple of days, we finally managed to make our way to the head of Crescent Lake. The lake is about 9 mile long and 4 mile wide and is fed by a glacier - hence the turquoise colored water. Unfortunately, we didn’t find much action at the top of the lake, but found this big healthy bear getting ready for hibernation.

This was the reason for Alaska trip this year! To watch and photograph Grizzly Bears fishing salmon as they prepare for hibernation in the winter.
Glad we got to see it a few times. Apparently, last year this time, the grizzlies were fishing a lot more but this time a lot of them were close to done eating for the season.
