Maybe it's not "colic."

Maybe it's overstimulation.
Too much noise. Too much input.
Not enough closeness. Not enough regulation.

Maybe it's not "colic."

Maybe it's gas from a bad latch.
Swallowing air all day.
Tongue and lip ties no one caught.

Maybe it's not "colic."

Maybe it's what's in the bottle.
Corn syrup solids labeled as "gentle."
An immature gut trying to process it.

Maybe it's not "colic."

Maybe it's tension.
Through their neck. Their back.
From birth that was never worked through.

Maybe it's not "colic."

Maybe it's a body that got overwhelmed.
Overloaded with too much, too fast, too early.

Maybe it's not random.

Maybe it's not "just what babies do."

Maybe it's a baby asking for
help in the only way they can.

But it's easier to call it “colic” than ask why. 💔

Due dates are estimates, which I KNOW is oversaid… but seeing the vast differences are so interesting!!

I’ll drop mine below, add yours!

Nobody likes to hear this part...
but most moms who think they "didn't make enough milk" just didn't have proper support for breastfeeding.

Real, physiological low supply is VERY uncommon... only 1-5% of moms *truly* can't produce enough milk regardless of how well baby feeds (mastectomy, low glandular tissue, hypothyroidism are the most common culprits).

You can't take lip + tongue ties, slap some lactation cookies on top and expect to succeed. 😅

Period.

For success, babies need to be close, not swaddled, lip + tongue ties addressed, body work to release tension, AND freedom to nurse freely (yes, even those every 20 minute cluster feeds during growth spurts).

The system tries to measure every ounce when your milk literally changes hour by hour to the perfect consistency your baby needs.

** That's why formula-fed babies constantly go up in ounces while BF babies stay around 4 ounces! 😉

If your baby is gaining and having enough diapers, they're getting enough.

If they aren't, see an IBCLC (NOT Joe Shmoe lactation lady).

Breastfeeding didn't suddenly get harder in the last 50 years. What got harder is the amount of garbage advice moms get the second they try to feed a baby.

Your body is perfect.
Your baby knows what to do.
Trust the process.

The comments on posts like this always crack me up.

“But I work all day.”

Okay.

If you lived alone, would your dishes disappear?

Would your laundry wash itself?

Would the toilet paper fairy stock your bathrooms? 🧚

Would your dentist call and schedule your appointments?

Would dinner magically appear every night?

EVERY adult has to manage these things.

Somehow, the second a relationship starts, SOME people act like “providing” means they’re exempt from half of adulthood. 🫠

The mental load isn’t just doing the tasks.
It’s remembering they exist in the first place.

We are not your mommy.
We are your spouse. Partner. Other *half.*

Not your maid, chef, or secretary. 😌

Providing isn’t an automatic hall pass from the rest of life’s responsibilities. 🫶🏼

First weekend of summer,
and every year I have the same thought…

Eighteen sounds like a lot until you’ve already used up half of them. 🥺

So here’s your reminder to say yes to the popsicle, the sprinkler, the late bedtime, the ice cream run, and the messy memories.

I’ll miss the noise.

(Not today, obviously… today I’m hiding in the pantry to eat a snack in pace and mostly looking forward to bedtime)

But someday. 🥹❤️

So important if you’re expecting

So important if you’re expecting

If you’re pregnant and still taking plain folic acid because “that’s what they give everyone,” you NEED to read this.

As a doula of 10 years and mom of 8, this is one of those areas where modern recommendations STILL haven’t fully caught up to how the body actually works.

Folic acid is the synthetic version of folate.

Folate is the form naturally found in foods and the form your body actually USES. 🤯

The problem?
A huge percentage of people have genetic variations (like MTHFR) that make it harder to properly convert synthetic folic acid into usable folate.

Yet most prenatals STILL contain folic acid.

Not because it’s “better.”
Because it’s cheap, stable, and standardized.

And listen… folic acid absolutely helped reduce neural tube defects compared to women getting almost none at all.

That mattered 🫶🏼

But “better than deficiency” and “optimal for the body” are not always the same thing.

That’s the part nobody talks about enough.

Your baby’s development depends heavily on methylation, cellular growth, DNA formation, and proper nutrient utilization during pregnancy.

So personally?
I’d rather support the body with the form it already recognizes and uses:
Folate. Specifically methylfolate.

This is one of those conversations where medicine often moves slower than emerging understanding.

And honestly, pregnant women deserve more nuanced conversations than:
“Just take this because everyone does.”

Did you know there was a difference before this?

What time do yours go to bed??

What time do yours go to bed??

Some of y’all are calling it a “night owl kid” when really it’s just lazy parenting. 😭

A 6 year old is not responsible for setting their own bedtime.
You are.

Kids staying up until 10-12 every night is not harmless.

Chronic lack of sleep in children is tied to:
• behavioral issues
• anxiety
• weakened immune systems
• attention problems
• obesity
• poor emotional regulation
• worse learning/memory
• hormone disruption

And overtired kids rarely act tired.
They act hyper, emotional, aggressive, impulsive, and completely dysregulated.

Recommended sleep by age:
• Toddlers: 11–14 hours
• Preschoolers: 10–13 hours
• School age kids: 9–12 hours
• Teens: 8–10 hours

Which means yes… most younger kids should probably be asleep WAY earlier than modern culture acts like they should.

Your child’s health is more important than avoiding bedtime battles. 🫶🏼
