this week marked six months since we entirely uprooted our lives and made the huge cross country move to Cali.
it’s still surreal that we even live here now.

to celebrate, last week took me and our moose to Joshua Tree for the first time to finally experience this mystical park. crazy to realize it’s only 2hrs from our house 😵‍💫

to say this land is magic, enchanting and intoxicating would be the ultimate understatement- it’s a literal dream come true. while we’re still in the midst of finding our way, all of the effort + struggle feels worthwhile…
Especially when epic national parks and vast desert are just a short drive away.

heading to Joshua Tree next week for the very first time with my love… to say I’m excited is the ultimate understatement.

I’ve always been fascinated by landscapes that feel vast and almost alien. places where the quiet is loud and the light hits in ways that make everything feel a little more surreal.

Everyone I talk to seems to have a Joshua Tree story about the moment they finally understood the magic, or the moment the desert humbled them. I’m ready to see what it holds in store for us….

if any friends have fave sunrise/sunset spots, hidden trails, weird roadside gems, good food recs in town, or overlooked places where the desert feels especially alive, I’m open to it all. please share your stories, I’d love to hear what made it magic for you.

I didn’t realize it yet here, but this was the day I learned my Polaroid camera was a goner.

I brought it along as I did for every shoot thinking it would be fun for a few raw surprise gifts to the family. little instant moments inside the bigger ones we were already documenting.

Gigi was extra fascinated and wanted to try taking a picture. She took it seriously too… adjusting her grip, squinting through the viewfinder, lining everyone up just right. it lit us all up to see her so into it.

The camera never actually produced a single photo. every attempt we made turned out bright white and blank. Turns out it had stopped working entirely before I even arrived.

But watching her slow down and look,… really *look*, was its own special moment to witness.

Sometimes the point isn’t whether the picture comes out. sometimes it’s just about the moment someone decides they want to see or pause the world through their perspective and a lens. a beautiful gift all its own.

I swear there’s just something different about the light in Southern California.

soft, golden, a little wild around the edges. with the ability to transform milestones into moments that feel truly cinematic.
