Can you tell a difference between these two images?

I tried different export settings on one of them which in theory should make it look better on Instagram vs the regular settings I’ve been using. Curious to see what the difference is!

If you hunt or fish in Georgia you’ve likely seen the 2025-2026 Hunting & Fishing regulation guide from either free in a store or online, but did you recognize the photo on the front?!

Taken by yours truly back in 2016 along the Chattah***hee River in the ***heerivernps (where hunting is not allowed, but fishing is). This wood duck was one of the first ones I saw on the river and it was as surprised to see me in my kayak as I was to see it! 🦆🛶

It was quite the surprise to go into a Walmart and see stacks of them with a photo I took sitting in the outdoor section.

Eye contact with giants! 👀 🦌

Took a walk in the Chattah***hee River National Recreation Area and had an unforgettable encounter with these stunning White-tailed Buck.

The way the light hit those antlers and their coat in the thick fall underbrush was incredible. You can really feel the intensity in their gaze. Sometimes the best adventures are the quiet ones, where you just witness nature being itself.

Up close and personal with a wood duck in the ***heerivernps

Wood ducks are some of the most colorful ducks in the world which makes them sought after by birders, hunters, and nature lovers such as myself!

Getting close-up photos is more about letting the wood duck get close to you rather than you trying to get close to it. Wood ducks are generally very skittish!

These photos were taken with a long lens and the detailed images are heavily cropped!

Even! More! Deer!

The ***heerivernps has lots of deer (like most of Georgia)!

Did you know the white tail deer is one of America’s best conservation stories? I’ll let you Google the specifics, but in the late 1800s and early 1900s the deer population was dramatically lower than its estimated pre-colonial numbers. Since protections were put in place, the white tail deer has rebounded and become one of the most commonly seen wild mammals in the south east (after the gray squirrel and chipmunk I imagine)!

See if you can spot when the deer in the images have their tongues out or are making a funny face.

Are deer scarce where you live? What about where you grew up?

Canada geese with a little extra magic courtesy of ’s I-285 providing the background bokeh lights.

I don’t get to have light spots (the lights on the cars are made round and enlarged when they are not in focus due to the way lenses work) in my wildlife images very often so this image was a fun one to try.

I tried a few longer exposure shots to get the streaks of light as the cars moved along the interstate, but those pesky geese also moved as well creating blurry images. That’s the trouble with wildlife, they’re not very good at posing 😅🤷🏻‍♂️

Eagle coming in hot!

It’s always a great day seeing an eagle and seeing one hunt is even better. Unfortunately for the eagle this dive turned up empty handed, but it was still spectacular nonetheless!

Eagles are around in the ***heerivernps, but with their wide hunting ranges and relatively small number, (compared to say Canada geese) you likely won’t see them every visit.

Have you seen an eagle on the Chattah***hee river? Share your favorite encounter in the comments.
