I’ve been waiting to share this news…

I’m incredibly proud that Jason Goldstein Photography has been selected to receive Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod's 2026 Golden Hammer Business Award.

What started about six years ago with me volunteering my photography has grown into a relationship that means a lot to me, and as a one-person business, receiving this recognition is pretty special.

I’m grateful that photography has given me a way to support the work Habitat does for families here on Cape Cod, and I’m looking forward to continuing that work.

Next up: my third Habitat Blitz Build in just a few weeks!

Meet Addy, a rising senior at Sandwich High School 📸

She and her best friend Cora (also a rising senior at Sandwich High) came in together for their senior portraits at Town Neck Beach and the Sandwich Boardwalk. That stretch of beach at sunset gets me every time, I don't think I'll ever get used to that light.

Ride or die, Thelma and Louise if they'd grown up on Cape Cod.

Meet Cora, a rising senior at Sandwich High School 📸

We spent a golden evening at the Sandwich Boardwalk and Town Neck Beach for her senior portraits, along with her best friend Addy (her photos are coming soon, and these two were an absolute blast to photograph together).

Cora's family found their way back to me for this one, and that means a lot. I photographed her sister Arianna a few years ago at this exact spot, so getting to be part of Cora's senior year here too felt really special. Watching a family come back year after year is one of my favorite parts of this job.

Back in early July, I had the privilege of photographing Coalition on the Cape 2026, a gathering hosted by The Kennedy Forum that brought supporters together around its work to improve mental health programming in schools and communities.

The day started at the JFK Hyannis Museum and ended with a tour of the historic Kennedy Compound in Hyannis Port. Even though Cape Cod decided to give us one of those raw, windy, gray summer days, it didn't take away from the experience.

It was fascinating to hear Patrick Kennedy speak about his family's legacy, but what stood out even more to me was how genuine he was. He took time to talk with people, pose for photos with anyone who asked, and you could tell just how passionate he is about improving mental health care.

Mental health has been something I've dealt with since I was young. Anxiety, ADD, and the challenges that come with them have shaped parts of my life in ways many people never see. Because of that, this assignment meant more to me than just taking pictures.

As photographers, we get invited into moments that most people never experience. This was one of those moments for me. Seeing people come together, not for recognition, but because they genuinely want to make a difference for students, families, and educators, was something I really appreciated.

Out of respect for everyone's privacy, I'm sharing just a small glimpse of the day. Thank you to The Kennedy Forum for trusting me to document such an important event, and thank you to everyone working to make conversations around mental health more open, more accepted, and more accessible.

Mental health affects all of us in one way or another. The more we talk about it, the better chance we have of helping someone who may be struggling in silence.

My job sucks! Part Deux

Yesterday was International Owl Awareness Day, and I wanted to share something that's close to my heart.

Mass Audubon put together a post about the dangers of rodenticides to owls and other raptors, and I was honored that one of my Barred Owl photos was included alongside images from several other talented photographers.

Wildlife photography, especially photographing owls and other birds, is what first got me interested in photography many years ago. It eventually led me down the path to becoming a professional photographer. While portrait photography is now my career, getting out into nature with a camera is still one of my favorite ways to spend time, even if I don't get to do it as often as I'd like.

One of the biggest threats to owls and other birds of prey is rodenticide. These poisons don't just affect rodents. They can move up the food chain and harm or kill the predators that naturally help keep rodent populations under control.

As a small way to support raptor conservation, I recently picked up a couple of Rescue Raptors shirts. It's a simple gesture, but I'm always happy to support organizations working to protect these incredible birds.

If you've never had the chance to watch an owl silently fly through the woods or hear one calling at dusk, I hope you get to someday. They're remarkable animals, and they're well worth protecting.

We are officially in the throes of summer on Cape Cod, and senior season is very much underway!

This is Brody, a rising high school senior who I recently photographed in Orleans. Brody is a big soccer player and fan, and with the World Cup going on while we were shooting, I’m pretty sure spending an evening taking senior photos with me wasn’t exactly at the top of his list. 😂

But he was a trooper, and he did great.

We started around the docks at Rock Harbor, made use of some of the character around Captain Cass Seafood, including that wall of colorful buoys, and finished out at Rock Harbor Beach as the sun went down. I love sessions like this because we can get so much variety in a relatively small area without making the session feel overly posed or forced.

Summer has gotten very busy very quickly. I’m doing my best to keep up with new inquiries while also managing a pretty packed shooting schedule.

One thing I really try not to do, though, is overbook myself.

A big part of what I want to offer isn't just great photographs. It’s the entire experience that goes along with them. From planning the session and choosing locations, to helping with clothing, posing and guiding you throughout the shoot, and then working together afterward to choose your favorite images and what you want to do with them.

That takes time, and I want every client to feel like they actually have that time with me rather than being squeezed into an overloaded calendar.

August is basically booked at this point, and I’m now scheduling senior sessions into the fall. So if senior portraits are still on your list, reach out sooner rather than later before the remaining dates fill up.

And Brody, thanks for giving up a little World Cup time for me. I think it was worth it. ⚽📸

Twenty years ago, Melissa and Dan stood on these rocks on Cape Cod on their wedding day.

Three kids later, they came back hoping to recreate that moment.

Before the session, Melissa sent me a few of their wedding photos. She was pretty sure they had been taken at Skaket Beach, so that’s where we planned to meet.

I got there a little early, looked around, and something just didn’t feel right. I pulled up the wedding photos again, looked a little closer, and it hit me.

Right town-Orleans, Wrong beach.

Those photos weren’t taken at Skaket. They were taken at Rock Harbor!

Melissa was only a couple of minutes away, so I gave her a call and we made a quick change of plans. It ended up being exactly the right decision.

We had an incredible sunset, recreated some of their favorite wedding photos, and then spent the rest of the evening photographing the whole family. It made the night even more special that Melissa’s parents were there celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, along with her dad’s 75th birthday, surrounded by family.

Sometimes the best part of photography isn’t just making new memories. It’s finding your way back to an old one.

Nature gave me two very different experiences this week.

One day, I was photographing whales off Cape Cod with Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises. A few days later, I was diagnosed with anaplasmosis, a tick-borne illness.

Just a reminder that while we're all out enjoying summer, it's also peak tick season. Do your tick checks, and if you develop fever, chills, headaches, or body aches after spending time outdoors, don't hesitate to get checked. Luckily did just that, was diagnosed qu**ky by some great providers at Falmouth Hospital, Cape Cod Healthcare, and I am already starting to feel better after being on antibiotics.

This wasn't just another beach photo session.

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of photographing Sarah and Mark on East Sandwich Beach.

They're from Tennessee, and their trip to Cape Cod was made possible by the incredible nonprofit, Waves of Grace Their mission is to give individuals living with cancer and their families a chance to step away from treatments, appointments, and the weight of everyday life for a week at the beach while creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Sarah is living with terminal cancer.

When Waves of Grace reached out and asked if I would donate a photo session during their stay, there wasn't a moment of hesitation.

Photography has always been about more than creating beautiful images. It's about preserving relationships, laughter, quiet moments, and the way two people look at each other. Those moments become even more meaningful with time.

Watching Sarah and Mark laugh together, hold each other, and enjoy a beautiful evening on East Sandwich Beach was a powerful reminder of why I do what I do. These photographs can't change their circumstances, but they can preserve this chapter of their story and the love they share.
