I am often asked by photographers what I am looking for when I frame up while doing "street photography". Street is just that, a canvas of movement, people, color or lack of, and to find the feeling of what the streets convey. It's definitely a dance of moment that changes as fast as a blink of an eye. A child pulling, a man watching and a group of people eating. A few seconds from that moment and the whole feel is a new canvas. Street is ever changing and always a great lie between the viewer and the truth.

It's been too long, but our famous Balboa Park in San Diego @ sunset looking at the tower. Not one of my best, but it does capture the feel of the place on a warm San Diego night. It has that Hotel California feel to it.

As I posted in my photography page... Phil Keaggy is still the greatest guitarist I have even seen. His show tonight was unbelievable! I hate sitting in the audience and yet he held my attention from beginning to end...

It's been years since I went to a concert just for the show and am not working it. I was lucky enough to have front row tickets for the man I personally consider the greatest guitarist in the world, bar none. I had a chance to meet up with him prior to the show and as always, he was kind and generous. He likened me to Van Morrison (I laughed) because of my hat. Truly he did a show that was beyond words which means a lot from me since I have seen 1000's of shows. This is my 8 Keaggy show and my 2 friends who joined me said, yup, he is amazing. Sorry Jake, you still hold #2!

The beauty of the ocean, you take it for granted and don't visit when it is so close... When you leave, it's the one thing you miss the most.

I received this poster from an incredible musician, Jake Allen who had been touring and asked for me to take some shots of him for his latest work. The idea was the artist behind the mask which went well enough for him to use it for his poster. I thought I would share it with you all and introduce you to him and his music. www.jakeallenmusic.com I can only say of him, the world rarely see talent at this level so give him a listen.

Sometimes you get up and forget how this Covid has taken so much as another perfect painted sky appears. I can see this morning as clear as day... feel the cool as the sun appeared. I will not let anyone take from me the peace that I feel but rather remember how things like this make me feel alive.

Running along in that vein of noir, kinda makes me hungry... yes the late night after drinking spot downtown. I sat and watched people scarf these belly bombs down with everything and think... oh my... that may not work out for you later.

This photograph started me on a journey in what now seems eons ago. I was speaking with someone on the phone on my way to a shoot and was explaining a bustling downtown. I told the person I would snap a shot so they could see the movie theater and all the people running about. I chose to do it in black and white since the darkness was prominent in the shot. I had pushed my settings for earlier that day and didn't look to set up for the shot. Because of that it created a film noir feel to the picture. Over exposing the high key and under exposing the low key leaving very little room for mid key. I was always a fan of the old Bogart movies (Maltese Falcon) which this had the same effective look to it. I was hooked and did a series of B&W pictures in that same look and feel... but it is always the first one that inspires us.
