San Diego Sportfishing Industry Treats
U.S. Coast Guard Families To Whale Watch Cruise
Expressing their appreciation for the dedicated service provided by the US Coast Guard, the San Diego sportfishing industry is hosting a whale watch cruise for active coast guard members and family members this Saturday January 13th aboard the M/V Legend from H&M Landing. // In February 2017 San Diego was designated the nationâs 21 st and largest âOfficial Coast Guard Cityâ, an honor bestowed with approval from Congress by the Commandant of the USCG, which recognizes the Cityâs commitment to support the men and women who served and or have retired from the US Coast Guard and their families. The designation is predicated on San Diegoâs ability to erect monuments to the Coast Guard, organize civic celebrations and offer special recognition and support U.S. Coast Guard morale, welfare and recreational initiatives. // Providing an opportunity for Coast Guard members and their families to enjoy a day of whale watching is intended to expand recreational opportunities for them and to express the fleetâs acknowledgement and gratitude for their service. // Captain Frank Ursitti, H&M Landing general manager, commented, âH&M Landing and the entire San Diego Sportfishing fleet are proud to offer this opportunity for those who serve and their families. We canât think of a better way to acknowledge their commitment, dedication and sacrifice throughout their service.â // In 2016, the Coast Guard conducted 444 search and rescue missions in the San Diego region, saving 111 lives and assisting 511 more. // San Diego offers some of the best winter whale watching opportunities on the West Coast. During the season which runs from December into early April, the thousands of Pacific Gray whales which pass by coast provide a phenomenal natural spectacle. Trips depart daily from H&M Landing to the whale watch viewing grounds.
