Sunset over Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia
during our visit to Vietnam, we spent a few days in Cambodia. The time we spent at Angkor Wat was so magical. You feel the history and you can read it as you walk through the temples as it’s etched in all the walls. Stories of oppression, revolution, love, humor, and sadness are depicted throughout the carvings and some amazing place.
we were fortunate to have a private guided tour throughout the complex while we were there. We were able to learn so much about the way religion and territorial conflicts wove through the daily life for people living in this area. To this day, there are still conflicts around the restoration and history of these stunning temples and pagodas.
Angkor, is in Cambodia’s northern province of Siem Reap and is one of the most important archaeological sites of Southeast Asia.
It extends over approximately 400 square kilometres and consists of scores of temples, hydraulic structures (basins, d***s, reservoirs, canals) as well as communication routes.
For several centuries Angkor, was the centre of the Khmer Kingdom. With impressive monuments, several different ancient urban plans and large water reservoirs, the site is a unique concentration of features testifying to an exceptional civilization.
