Summer slipped away again. One minute we were chasing waves, and the next… the first-day-of-school photos were taken, and backpacks were waiting by the door.
This week, my babies, who are somehow in first and second grade, walked into their classrooms with some nerves but a lot of joy. I still see their baby faces when I look at them. A little bittersweet.

Time has a way of feeling slow in the moment, and impossibly fast when you look back.

Whether you’re in the thick of the newborn haze or sending your big kids out into the world, each season is worth holding onto. Because one day, you’ll look back and realize how much life was happening right here, in the everyday.

📸 Photographer Tip: Let’s talk maternity posing.

Not every photo needs to show mom holding her belly.
Yes, the bump is beautiful. But so is she.
Her shape, her grace, her strength—this is a celebration of the whole woman, not just her pregnancy.
When I pose, I’m thinking beyond tradition. I’m thinking lines, angles, and energy.
That’s where triangles come in—arms, legs, posture—subtle geometry that brings flow and elegance into the frame.
Swipe to see how I build visual interest into a pose with intentional angles. 👆

✨ Your reminder: pose for her story and strength, not just the obvious.

Bold or soft—what’s your vibe?

One image, two moods.

Sometimes it’s the tiniest shift in color that changes everything. That’s the beauty of custom newborn photography—it’s designed around you and what feels timeless for your family.

Whether you lean into color or prefer something soft and muted, we’ll create images that feel like you.

To the moms holding babies in their arms and the ones holding them in their hearts—
To the moms hoping, healing, navigating, and showing up—
I hope you feel held today, too.

Because Mother’s Day is about more than cards or flowers.
It’s about honoring the strength it takes to mother—
In all its joy, ache, beauty, and resilience.

You are seen. You are celebrated.
You are not alone.

Happy Mother’s Day ❤️.

Introducing: “Still” – A Mother’s Day Portrait Experience

This is not a mini session.
This is a one-on-one, guided experience that includes:

✔️ A brief pre-session planning call
✔️ A 20-minute portrait session (one set, one mother, fully styled)
✔️ 3 artistically edited, full-resolution images
✔️ A quiet moment that is hers — and her babies alone

These sessions will be offered on select dates only in my La Jolla studio.
They are designed for mothers, grandmothers, daughters — for the women who hold so much, and are so rarely held. This is a celebration of their motherhood journey, in the way they envision.

Pricing: $400 (special rate for this limited release)
Dates: Selected dates in April and May 2025
Limited availability. Booking closes on May 11th, 2025.

The (painful) story I’ve been hiding behind

For a long time, I told a certain version of my story.
I said I became a photographer because I didn’t have many photos from my early childhood. That I wanted to help other families (and my own kids) preserve what I didn’t have. And that is true — part of it, at least.

But not all of it.

The truth is, I’ve been hiding behind a safer version of the story.
Because the real reason I do this work — the real reason I hold space for mothers to be seen, remembered, and celebrated — comes from something more intimate and painful.

I’ve been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Three times.
And that experience changed everything. It’s a storyline and an experience that rearranges your understanding of time. It puts pressure, bends, and softens you. It reframes you. It forces you to ask:
When I’m no longer here, what will I leave behind?

That question lives in my head more than I would like to and in every image I make.
I don’t just photograph women, babies, and bellies. I photograph belonging.
I photograph proof.
I photograph the story you may one day not have the words to tell. It might be the story that I will not be around to tell. And that gives me purpose.

This isn’t just about “pretty pictures.”
It’s about presence. About legacy. About love.

Thanks for holding space for the real raw painful story. But also the beautiful, purposeful, intentional, and honest one.

The next *Mama Series* is coming up this Friday, April 19—and we’re diving into a topic that doesn’t get talked about enough: **maternal mental health**.

Alexa Levine, MS, LMFT, is joining us to shed light on the real, raw parts of motherhood—the identity shifts, the relationship changes, the feelings we’re told we *shouldn’t* have. This workshop is for anyone who wants to better understand the emotional journey of motherhood and walk away with tools, awareness, and support.

Curious about what we’ll cover? Join us tomorrow, April 16 at 11am for an Instagram Live with Alexa. We’ll chat through what to expect, why this conversation matters, and how you can feel more grounded in your motherhood experience.

See you there.
