“WHY ARE WE HERE?”

There are moments in your career that quietly stay with you… and then there are moments that come back and remind you why you do what you do. Yesterday, I received the 10 year annual report from and there it was. An image I captured on the cover. A beautiful couple, dancing, smiling and fully present with each other. I could not stop smiling. Not just because it was my photo, but because I remember the feeling in that moment. The joy, the connection and the humanity.

Working with has been so much more than photography for me. It has been part of my own healing journey after losing my dad to this disease. Through my lens, I’ve witnessed something profound, even in the presence of memory loss, joy still lives. Love still shows up and connection finds its way.

For a decade, this wonderful organization has served our community with compassion and dignity every single day. These last 10 years have also provided me with beautiful moments to photograph, meaningful conversations to have with families suffering from this disease and the opportunity to work with all the superheroes of this San Diego organization. Thank you to all those who have supported me and my work, I am truly grateful!

I am excited to share this week’s Rise & Inspire woman, please meet the founder of . Her character, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to her community have shaped and strengthened the woman I am today and I grateful to know her.

From wiretaps to cider taps... Former Federal Prosecutor turned CEO of , a trailblazing craft cider brand & hospitality company in San Diego, CA.

Native San Diegan and third-generation hospitality entrepreneur, Lara Worm, has had an untraditional path to entrepreneurship. Raised in the food & beverage industry in San Diego, Lara took a different path and pursued a law degree at the George Washington University Law School, clerked for a judge in Washington, DC, and then served as an Assistant United States Attorney for 10 years, prosecuting homicides and major narcotics cases in Washington, D.C. and then San Diego. By a twist of fate, she re-entered the craft beverage and hospitality industry, co-founding Bivouac Ciderworks, making craft cider for active adventurers, and operating Bivouac’s accompanying hospitality concepts in San Diego. Combining her love for cider, adventure, and women’s empowerment, Lara has built a brand that appeals to outdoor adventurers, foodies, and feminists alike. Bivouac’s handcrafted ciders feature exciting flavors that taste just as great at the top of a mountain as they do with a fine meal.

Lara takes great joy in creating community and being inspired by the collective of women artists, entrepreneurs, and adventurers who gather at her establishments.

Thank you Lara Worm for the gift of your story, for trusting me to photograph you, and share your presence. And for the space you have beautifully created, where so many professional women gather, connect and grow, your impact is felt in every corner of the room!!!

It’s wonderful when you can work with one of your best friends doing what you both love!! and collaborated for the first time to create a very beautiful and memorable wedding proposal for a great couple, when they visited the venue for a private tour. It was amazing and we look forward to creating many more memories for people in the future.

As I reflect on each of these beautiful women, I am filled with awe. Each of them brought something into our space that continues to stay with me. Steadiness, softness, confidence and vulnerability that we all share. As I put this patchwork together I immediately thought of a quilt, each woman wonderfully unique on her own, but when all stitched together they create something even stronger and more powerful...a sisterhood.

What has moved me over the last decade is how these women have shaped who I am. Every session added a thread to my own character, reminding me everyday that being a woman in business is not about fitting in, but about honoring the gifts we carry and choosing to be visible with them. We all want to be valued, seen and recognized for what we bring to the world.

To every woman in this collection, thank you for trusting me, sharing your presence and for contributing to this one of a kind art piece. I am grateful to know each of you.

A special thanks to Annie M Fonte MaryCay Durrant and Ash Robinson, 3 amazing women who inspired me to seek and find my way in the world of business. Also, Jessica Empeno who believed in me enough to start my photographic journey with Alzheimer’s San Diego. And of course my amazing husband boyd harris who taught me so much about myself and how photography is part of who I am and how I express my perspective with the world, love is abundant!!!
