Read on to learn about them:

Broad, gestural brushstrokes imbue the work with a palpable rhythm and movement, as if each stroke is a visual representation of a musical note, contributing to the overall composition that so deftly encapsulates the improvised and expressive nature of jazz and soul music.

The leftmost panel depicts a trumpet player lost in a reflective moment, the warm, golden tones suggesting a blend of nostalgia and the fiery spirit of creativity simmering within.

Center stage, a singer belts out a soul-stirring tune, her upward gaze and open mouth channeling the release and freedom inherent in jazz and soul music; the stark contrast of light and shadow on her face highlights the raw vulnerability and intensity of her performance.

The third panel brings forth a saxophonist, bathed in hues of purple and black, his face lifted in what could be interpreted as a divine communion with the music, evoking a sense of both yearning and fulfillment. Together, these images transmit the dynamic range of emotions that jazz and soul elicit: introspection, liberation, and an almost transcendental connection between musician and melody. The paintings strike a resonant chord with the viewer, delivering a visual melody that echoes the complex and deeply felt narratives of life that jazz and soul music so often explore.

"Confidence" 18x24" oil and masking gel mix, is a striking piece that showcases a strong sense of visual impact. The central figure draws the viewer's attention with its bold and vibrant colors as well as emphasizes the subject and creates a sense of depth and dimension in the painting. 🎨🎨

The colors and contrasts also evoke a range of human emotions, inviting you to explore the deeper meaning and symbolism behind the piece.

With this piece I attempted a combination of fluidity, color, emotional connecting and depth - which work together to create a visually striking and emotionally evocative piece.

"Mní wičhóni" 18x24" oil. 🔥🔥 (available)
🎨🎨Mní wičhóni is a Lakota phrase that means “water is life”. It has a spiritual meaning rooted in Indigenous world views. For Native Americans, water is sacred and sustains life. 🌊🌊🌊
The challenging part of this piece was inferring features of a persons face with all little detail as possible - relying on shades and tones and light. That's magic. ✨✨✨

"Greatness in the Chaos" 18x24" oil on canvas vinyl board. (Available) 🔥🔥🔥

Three of the greats, doing what they do best: Buddy Rich, Miles Davis, & Billie Holiday. Jazz is often described as chaotic and unsettling - which is way I positioned these three right in the thick of the chaos of the music, of the crowd... Of the ambiguous backdrop of color and contrast hoping to capture the "jazz" of it all. 😊
Only on for a week and I’m already loving the studio space, courtesy of Studios by Alamo - check em out!

First official painting in the new studio! 🎨

"Untitled December Abstract"
Here comes my pitch 😊: This red and dark blue green abstract painting is a statement piece. Its vibrant colors and expressive brushstrokes make it a focal point in any space, whether it be a home, office, or gallery with the painting's ability to command attention and provoke thought - making it a conversation starter and a testament to the intended vision.

The challenging part of "The value & focus" (40x30" oil) was that I had to paint it on its side to insure that my lines were straight and like many other people, when I try to paint lines horizontally, your body tends to fatigue over long strokes and you start to drop your arm.... thus the line starts to lean downward. And the lines were important because I needed to create the illusion of tones and shapes without actually painting the shape. I was relying on the "tone and value" to create the shapes of the woman.

Symbolically, I wanted to illustrate how we put people under microscopes when we judge them.... we hone in on the littlest thing and then we use it to tear people down.
But that one little mistake or flaw doesn't tell the whole story of someone's real beauty... to see the whole picture, we have to step back. Look at them in total. so when you look at this painting up close... you see the lines. But when you step back: you see her beauty.

Come see this painting and many more at the Price Tower Plaza now through March 12th.
🎨🎨🎨🎨
Shoutout to Hollis Howard Hollis Howard Angus Kent Lamar Jaymes Dudding Steve Brown for teaching me the value of tone.
Believe it or not, value is more important than color to the design and success of a painting. Value is used to create a focal point within a painting or drawing. The human eye is immediately drawn to a light element against a dark element. This creates, the focal point of interest.

You start with knowledge, technique...training. And in the middle and ends you find these little moments of serendipity and epiphanies: That's creativity.
That's the process.

Proud to be live painting for the Oklahoma Institute of Child Advocacy's Heroes Ball 2021 - live and simulcasted in Tulsa (at the Greenwood Cultural Center) AND Oklahoma City's Heroes Ball (hosted by the Skirvin Hotel) — and if you are familiar with my art, you know that I will be painting something germane, disciplined, vibrant and thoughtful!

Live painting events always gives me the opportunity to communicate through my artwork and I look forward to working with the OICA to raise money and awareness for an awesome cause!

Attendees and organizers are encourages to come dressed as their favorite superhero, so who knows: Tony Stark might be live painting that evening!

Want to attend the event? Tickets are still available for the Tulsa venue and you can sn**ch them up here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/oica-heroes-ball-2021-tulsa-tickets-153885925947?aff=efbevent&fbclid=IwAR16PcI0MbhfE541loxL35siSw8Rgcmoc2XzIXjz-yciTQWZCtcnBxsUaBg

The OICA creates awareness, takes action, and changes policy on behalf of children and youth. They equip caring adults, including parents and policymakers, with the information and opportunities they need to the invest in Oklahoma's Youth (which is a very important issue for myself).
