Bluebonnet Session Update 🌿
Just an update for everyone hoping for bluebonnet sessions this year.
These are one of my favorite sessions of all time, and I almost always have a long waitlist. It’s honestly killing me to say this, but it’s looking like it may be a rough year for bluebonnets.
Bluebonnets actually start their life cycle in the fall. The seeds typically germinate after fall rains and spend the winter growing low to the ground as small leafy plants. That early growth is what allows them to produce the big, full blooms we usually see in March and April.
Because we had much less rain than normal in the fall, many of the plants either never germinated or didn’t grow strong enough to produce blooms this spring.
Don’t let the patches along the highways fool you. Those areas are often seeded and maintained by the state, and they can bloom differently than the natural fields we normally use for photos.
I’ve checked almost every spot I know (and a few new ones), and right now there are very few plants and hardly any leaves or stems, which usually appear weeks before the flowers.
I’m still crossing my fingers for a late bloom, especially after the rain we’ve had recently. I’ll keep scouting everywhere I can and will keep everyone posted if I find a field that’s photo-ready.
Trust me — no one wants those bluebonnet fields more than I do. 💙
Keep following the page for updates, and if you’ve already signed up for my waitlist, you’ll be the first to know.
