We tend to think the photographs come after.
⠀
After you’ve named the business. After you know exactly who you are. After the next chapter is decided.
⠀
But you don’t have to have it all figured out first.
⠀
Sierra came to me somewhere before all of that. She’s stepping out of a military career and into a question: what now? There’s a business idea taking shape, still soft at the edges.
⠀
A good friend gifted her the session. Someone who saw her clearly enough to say, you deserve to be witnessed right here.
⠀
I’m a planner. I build one for every session, and I get uneasy without it. This session was different.
⠀
Because we didn’t have a plan, we were free to play, to be creative, to let the photographs come organically. And that openness is what gave Sierra something a planned session might have missed.
⠀
Not a record of who she’d become, but a mirror. A chance to meet herself at the threshold: a future business owner, yes, but mostly a woman in the in-between, figuring it out with everything that matters still intact.

Spring has felt especially generous in San Antonio this year.

We’ve had rain. We’ve had cooler days. The kind of weather that makes everything feel a little more alive — including my garden, which is somehow thriving.

And now, with school ending and summer knocking on the door, I’m especially grateful for the reprieve this spring has given us.

It feels like a gentle pause before the full Texas summer arrives.

These images of Trinley Burton feel like they belong to that kind of spring — fresh, grounded, beautiful, and full of life.

A small reminder to enjoy the season we’re in.

The light.
The color.
The rain.
The garden.
The surprisingly pleasant afternoon e-bike rides to school pickup with my grandson.

And the rare Texas miracle of not already being in 99-degree melting weather.

I’m so excited to finally be able to share a few images from Allison De Paoli’s photo session at the Pearl.

I photographed Allison for BenefitsPRO as part of her nomination for 2026 Advisor of the Year.

What she did not know yet was that she would go on to win.

The Pearl gave us such a beautiful San Antonio backdrop for this session, and I’m so glad we were able to create images for such an exciting and meaningful recognition.

Choosing a location for your photo session is about more than finding a pretty place.

Sometimes the location helps tell the story. It gives context, adds personality, and creates a visual connection to your brand.

Other times, the location can take over the image — and if the goal is a strong headshot or personal branding portrait, you still need to remain the focus.

The best locations support the photo without competing with you.

A simple headshot can absolutely be created on location, but the purpose is usually different than a lifestyle branding image. In a headshot, the background should feel clean, intentional, and quiet enough to let your face, expression, and presence lead.

For a branding session, the location may play a larger role. It might reflect your industry, your personality, your aesthetic, or the kind of experience you create for your clients. The key is choosing a space that feels aligned — not just beautiful.

Before choosing a location, ask:

Does this space support the story I want my images to tell?

Does it feel like my brand?

Will it enhance the photo, or distract from it?

Sometimes we wait for a milestone to celebrate ourselves.
A recovery. A new beginning. A birthday. A season of change.

But sometimes the reason is simply this:
to remember who you are in this moment.

So often we move through life taking care of everyone else, pushing through, rebuilding, growing… and forgetting to see ourselves along the way.

A portrait has a way of bringing that back.
Not perfection. Not performance.
Just a reminder that you were here, that you lived this season, and that it mattered.
