Maha Nawami is here!

Astra Puja (the worship of tools and arms) led by Nepal Army at the Lyaku area of Bhaktapur Durbar Square on the morning of Maha Nawami (9th day of Dashain). Dashain celebrates Goddess Durga’s victory over evil.

This ceremony symbolizes strength, protection, and the safeguarding of the nation—where tradition, faith, and history meet in the heart of Durbar Square.

The ritual is often carried out with military pomp & protocol: salutes, ceremonial gunfire, banners, formal uniforms, and significantly, a few ritualistic sacrifices as an honor to goddess durga.
