Nestled on the misty border of eastern Texas and Louisiana (between Marshall, TX and Shreveport, LA), Caddo Lake is a 25,000-acre wonder of flooded cypress forests and winding bayous—Texas's only natural lake, formed millennia ago by a massive log jam on the Red River and shaped further by 19th-century steamboat trade and oil booms. Named for the indigenous Caddo people who thrived there for centuries, this enchanted spot was once a hub for riverboat ports like Jefferson, Texas. Caddo Lake is now a protected wetland teeming with alligators, 200+ bird species, and mystical cypress trees. I was fortunate to visit the Lake twice this year. Here are a couple of my favorite photos. Please watch the short video at the following link if you wish to see more.

This past week, I visited Caddo Lake in Eastern Texas near the Texas/Louisiana state line. Caddo Lake is a 25,400-acre lake and wetland known for its cypress forests draped in Spanish moss. Formed by a massive log jam centuries ago, it’s one of Texas’s few natural lakes, offering a maze of bayous and sloughs.

I was glad to be able to join Robert Miller for a morning boat journey on the lake. Robert is an accomplished photographer who lives in the area and loves to spend time on the lake and share it with others like me who wish to photograph its beauty.

Here are a couple of my favorite photos from the visit. And I’ve included a link to a short video of more photos if you wish to view it. I hope you enjoy them.

Back in March I had a great time traveling along a portion of old US Route 66 from Amboy, CA to Shamrock, TX. Here’s a short video of some photos I took along the way of the Route 66 sites. I hope you enjoy it.

Last month I travelled along a portion of Route 66 with a couple of good friends. We began and ended our trip at locations that may look familiar to some people. Our first stop, Roy’s Motel and Café in Amboy California, was a featured location in the 1986 movie The Hitcher starring Rutger Hauer and also in the 1993 movie Kalifornia starring Brad Pitt. We ended our trip at the Conoco Tower and U Drop Inn Café in Shamrock Texas. Many will recognize this historic 1936 building as the model for one of the primary locations in the 2006 animated Disney Pixar film Cars. Here’s one of my photos of Roy’s Motel and a couple of the Conoco Tower.

Nelson, Nevada is about 45 minutes southeast of Las Vegas. In 1859, it was a booming, wild western gold mining town. Today it is a desert ghost town, littered with scattered reminders of a forgotten past. This is one of my favorite photos from there. 35 years ago, 18 February 1989, was a wonderful day. Patty walked down the church aisle and we were married.
Here is a short video of that wonderful day. Please take a look in celebration of our anniversary.

I have so many happy memories of that day and it was just the start of our wonderful life together. Because of Patty, I know that I have lived life more fully, laughed a lot harder, cried a little less, and smiled a whole lot more.

Returned from a trip last week to the Badlands National Park in South Dakota. Thanks to a wetter-than-normal Spring and early Summer, the park had more green grass than usual. This was taken in the Yellow Mounds area of the park.
