I finally got out to the bird refuge this morning and drove the new, yet temporary, auto loop. Positively identified 40 different species, including a Bobolink, which is a new bird to be checked off in my bird book! Also, I got to watch the Ruddy Duck courtship, which I've never seen before. What a great day!

Internet stalking has really paid off. I made the list again! 🤣 With Philip Fracassi – I'm on a streak! I've made it onto their weekly engagement list 7 weeks in a row. 🎉 But seriously... his books are awesome and I'm a fan.

One of my favorite places to birdwatch is in my parents' backyard. I always find such cool things to photograph.

Anna's Hummingbird
Black Widow Spider
White-breasted Nuthatch
Turkey (several large flocks wander the neighborhood and crap everywhere in the yard 😡)

If you love horror then read "Sarafina" - Philip Fracassi's latest novel about three brothers who desert their posts during the Civil War and find refuge in a remote cabin with a woman and her son. This is a story about good vs. evil, but which is which? It's an excellent read and I highly recommend it.

I've also read his "Boys in the Valley" and "The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre" and I recommend those as well.

PS I drove some 750+ miles to San Diego to have him sign my books. What can I say? I'm a fan and am always looking for a reason to take a road trip! 😀 🚗 📚

Spent a few hours the other morning exploring Zion National Park in Southern Utah.

Some very loud Elegant Terns. And some frolicking seals in the waves.

So... I picked up some lunch and went over to Farmington Bay and surprisingly, the gate to the d**e road was open. I thought it was closed for the season, but there were other cars on the road so I went to my usual spot at the very end and sat and ate lunch.

I noticed that I hadn't seen any other cars while I was eating/birdwatching and thought "oh, lucky me". Eventually I made my way back down the road and by this time it's been about 2 hours. There was not one other car on the road and I still wasn't getting it. I thought that it was just a slow day being the day before Easter. However when I got closer to the gate I noticed it was closed and there was a ranger opening it for me. He'd been tasked with coming to get me! My bad, but I had that part of the refuge for myself for almost two hours! 😂
