I've been slow, but I finally got to this point. The challenge is turning the moccasins inside out after I stitch it. I usually will stitch it halfway down on both sides before turning it, and then stitching it the rest of the way. I'm excited to see how they turned out. 😁

To honor my great great great great grandma Kooish. She was said to have been the last living Sand Creek massacre (Nov. 29, 1864) survivor.

In college I painted this from an old photograph of her that was in a book about the Arapaho. I added my own colors.

Why a week? To create more event opportunity days, especially for schools, people who work M-F, and people organizing events.

Do we have to wear our Mocs the whole week? Nope, choose a day or days, or the whole week.

Is there a main day? The original day will always be November 15th

Where is RYM held? Wherever you may be and wherever your day takes you or there may be an event in your community

Why: We, as Indigenous people stand united through our tribal individuality, symbolically wear our moccasins, honor our ancestors, and indigenous peoples worldwide, during Rock Your Mocs and National Native American Heritage Month

What is Rock Your Mocs?
Established 2011, Rock Your Mocs, is best described as a worldwide Native American & Indigenous Peoples social media unity event held annually and concurrently with November National Native American Heritage Month in the U.S.A.

An expression of cultural pride, during Rock Your Mocs, people wear their moccasins and share photos on social media with the hashtag thus creating an online “photo album” for the world to see. Utilizing social media, Native American/Indigneous Peoples celebrate their inherent sense of identity.

Additionally individuals, organizations, businesses, schools, museums and tribes are taking the initiative to create their own independent events throughout the world.

How to join in:
- Wear your moccasins, Turquoise Awareness Ribbon, a Rock Your Mocs, T-shirt, attend or organize an event
- Share on social, add to your post and tag
- Click on the to see what’s happening worldwide !

Allyship:
-Learn what about the tribes in your area and what types of moccasins they wore.
-Support authentic Native American | Indigenous companies, organizations, performing arts.
-Understand cultural appropriation
