Rolling with the coach .under.water . He’s way more forgiving, and gives me opportunities to put theory into practice. He does a lot of technical things that I don’t catch when rolling, but that’s what separates newbies from experts!

My first jiu jitsu breakdown. It’s my sixth time rolling. the goat coach advises beginners to learn defense and escapes, and that’s my only option at the moment especially against bigger stronger opponents. I’m watching YouTube videos to learn escapes but don’t have a training partner, so it’s totally different than a live rolling situation when the pressure is on. Practice really is paramount in jiu jitsu.

Habiba always asked me for a dog or cat at the beginning of our relationship, and I said no, it's too much responsibility, too much commitment. And then two cats were rescued and came into our possession. Recently we took care of two wild dogs as well, but that was a handful. Their owner came back from the mountains to reclaim them.

I will say the two cats have been a godsend. When I am stressed they calm me down. When I am overthinking they bring me back to the present. When I am on my laptop they walk on the keyboard.

I think a cat rubbing up against your leg is one of the most wonderful feelings ever.

Did you know cats sleep 70% of the day? 🤗

We spent New Year’s Eve in the desert with . The idea was created for a wholesome gathering during this time of year because that’s when su***de rates increase dramatically. Why not bring people together and do something fun to help people reflect on the year gone and visualize the new year.
We hiked in the great silent desert, with zero distractions, and all of the connection to this true world.
The trip was a great blessing. It came at the right time. It gave me time and space to reflect. I don’t need much to be happy. And that patience helps you see the bigger picture always. As I write this there is a huge Bedoiun wedding party going on next door and the walls of my home have been non stop shaking since 4pm. It’s now 9pm.
I miss the desert, but it taught me patience. May I get through this night in peace ☺️

Mango Bums Meditation originated from my loneliness in NYC and desire for healthy activities.

I'm a fairly sociable person, but it was always so much effort to meet people. And often times it was under intoxication so the convos usually ended in empty promises and a linkedin invite.

It didn't help everyone had a strong shield up.

Luckily at the time, my sister Lan worked at a science camp for children. I would visit during my short vacations, and she'd show me the forests and some of the games they would play with the kids.

I got excited and giggled like a kid.

It appeared to me adults had gotten away from their roots -nature and our inner child.

I set out to create a program that was fun and healthy for adults.

Now halfway across the world,
And I have made our roof that space. (Okay its not exactly nature but we have some plants!)

And beautiful people have started to drift in, mainly lured by habiba's phenomenal cooking.

Guided discussions, room to share, transcendent meditations to be had, laughs about eating boogers, something beautiful is occurring.

This is early days, and if you've been a part of it so far, you've helped us out so much. Tues and Saturdays, come join the mango bums! 🥭🤗

Halfway across the world, in this tiny town, I've been thinking about how can I do something about what's going on back home.
I think people are getting a lot of pressure to choose sides. or to do something.
Here's a good guideline.
Do your part, however big or small, wherever you live, out of love. That will be enough.
Otherwise you'll find yourself in something unsustainable.
Anger, fear and violence are unsustainable.
For those who have the privilege of staying silent, create something from love. Put it out there. It may help others speak up too.

I'm halfway across the world from home and have been away for 18 months now. What is going on?? Please be kind to one another and remember we're all in this ...

What's fascinating about this experience is...

This jellyfish and I crossed paths. The chances of this are infinitely small.

It floats around, moving by stimulus of the environment, and came into my life, to deliver me real happiness.

It has no idea what sort of an effect it had on me, and didn't plan on making me happy.

But it did so through it's simple existence.

When you are yourself, you can help people more than you know it.

This 8 hr hike last summer was the most memorable bc it was so full of surprises.

I thought Jordan was just a big desert, but the nature was ridiculous. The desert does lend itself to massive contrast, and just like how you appreciate good when you experience the bad, once you see some greenery against a backdrop of sand and rocks, your jaw can't help but drop. @ Jordan
