Where are we headed?..
This was taken during my last road trip, headed to Montana, somewhere just outside of Yellowstone. Road trips fill a part of my soul that I can’t explain. Ever since I could remember, I always loved the journey of traveling. Sure, the destination is exciting because it’s just out of our reach, filled with anticipation (and probably a lot of planning), but the adventure in getting there is just as rich with excitement and wonder. Road trips naturally cater to that desire, allowing us to take things slow and soak in our surroundings. ..
I suppose I should draw the inevitable life-journey comparison here. The thing about road trips are that the destinations are usually sources of positivity, so it’s easy to sit back and feel good about the journey. But when the destination is uncertain, filled with anticipation of a different kind, fear even, of course all I want to do is scream “are we there yet!?” ..
The beauty of the journey is, no matter the destination, in those moments beforehand, you can CHOOSE. The journey is real freedom. You can choose fear or you can choose wonder. You can choose cynicism or you can choose attentiveness. ..
I know it’s easy just to say “choose to look on the bright side.” I don’t necessarily think that’s what I’m getting at. It’s about an opportunity to just be. Soak in what’s happening. Choose to embrace it. Engage in the now. It’s all fleeting and impermanent. (And thank heaven it is!) Do so in the hope that when we arrive wherever we’re going, you don’t have to ask yourself “how did we get here?”..
And if you’re wondering, yes this is about politics.
