Beautiful 3 dimensional geometric pattern (muqarnas) in the dome of the church at Geghard monastery in Armenia. In the center the pure divine light, surrounding it are delicate patterns carved in stone symbolizing the light mixing with matter and inspiring matter. The reverse is true as well, through refining earthly matter one reaches up to the light. This pattern is more commonly seen in medieval mosque architecture, to find it here was a surprise. While founded much earlier, 4th century CE, the existing structures were built around 1215 CE. UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site.
