So, hey… I haven’t used this page in many, many years, as I have been doing primarily commercial photography (but still many other genres) for about 8-9 years—and business has been nearly 100% from referrals and long-term repeat clients. I’ve passed on taking on additional work at times, because I don’t wish to jeopardize my availability for my regular commercial clients.

So, yeah, this page is ancient and pretty irrelevant these days—mostly gathering dust, other than just a way for some folks to find me who couldn’t figure out how to, otherwise. 😜

Way back when, I simply switched off from doing any additional marketing; because, if I had continued marketing I would have found myself either way too overextended from accepting more work than I should, or I would have become “that photographer who is never available” for new inquiries. And I prefer not to go in the direction of growing a bigger team business, as I prefer more flexibility while my offspring’s still in school. 🙂

But, hey: A year or two after pandemic shutdowns, some of my corporate/commercial clients are still in a slow ramping-up process to reach their previous pace, so I do find that I have a fair bit more time for scheduling additional shoots. So, feel free to holler with inquiries. I still probably won’t mess with updating this FB page more, though. 🤣

A few things about "natural light" (plus, read the article here):

1. All light is "natural," regardless of the source. I prefer the term "available light."

2. While sometimes working solely with available light is perfectly good, sometimes it absolutely is not.

3. Especially when hiring wedding or location-work-only photographers, beware of "natural light" photographers, and find out what that means with them. If they are not very seasoned with lighting gear and accustomed to using it all the time, then you are taking a real risk with your day's photos.

Too sunny and not a lot of excellent non-dappled full shade? Add light. Too dark? Add light. Overcast? Can be flattering, but can also be very flat, and need light to add depth and dimension. Want drama? Add light. Bad skin day? Believe it, or not: Add light. Dark circles under your eyes? Add light.

(But note that adding light needs to be done *well*. Adding light can make things better, or it can make it even worse.)

Adding light is not the *only* option in all of these scenarios, but it can be one of the most consistent and effective ones before Photoshop.

Every time I hear a photographer state, “I’m a natural light photographer”, it can carry a suggestion that they are a more honest type of photographer, better attuned to reality, and purer in motive. What I hear is, “I haven’t learned to use my flash.” This may sound harsh but I can’t help it; right…

Also have been working on new website:

http://www.eshimage.com/01

No real written content yet. And logo/menu graphics are not the actual ones I'll be using. (Still gotta figure that part out.) Just dumping a grab bag of images into galleries and trying to give it a little structure.

http://www.eshimage.com/ will be phased out once I can get this one finished.

Yay.

Man, FB's recent update to allow full-screen photos is an improvement, but its compression algorithm can still wreak havoc on images. ::sigh::
