In , there stands an eye-catching sight - a water tower that looks like an ear of corn.

Standing 151 feet tall, this 50-thousand gallon water tower was built in 1931 as a nod to one of the main vegetables processed at the nearby Reid, Murdoch and Co. food cannery.

While the cannery was demolished in 2019, the water tower remains as a popular attraction. In fact, the tower was restored and repainted in 2021, and won an award later that year in a “Tank of the Year” contest.

In lies , dedicated to the service members from southeast Minnesota that lost their lives.

Included within the grassy area are a Wall of Remembrance (with 47 panels of names), and a Walk of Remembrance, covered with 6300 pavers donated to honor different service members.

In , there is an unusual house - The Pyramid House.

Shaped like a pyramid (hence the name), this unusual 5,600 square foot residence contains 6 bedrooms and 3 baths.

While many just drive by and take a picture of this wacky structure, you can actually book a stay in this place on - if you can cough up the $600 per night rate.

I think we will just stick with the picture.

Continuing on to , we came across one of those famous heads…in a playground.

Ok, so it’s not actually one of the famous ones transported to Iowa or anything like that. Instead, artist created an 11-foot-tall replica made out of steel rather than stone.

As for why it’s in a playground of a luxury townhouse community, well…who knows?

Still a wacky sight to see.

In we stumbled across this historical marker.

On the evening of July 21, 1873, notorious outlaw Jesse James and his gang committed the first moving train robbery in history.

Attempting to steal $75,000 in gold, they left with only $3,000 in cash and loot, since the gold shipment had been delayed. They then headed to Missouri to hide.

Later, the governor of Missouri issued a $10,000 reward for the capture of Jesse James, which supposedly lead to his shooting death by Bob Ford.

In , amidst a cornfield, is a sight to inspire terror in - a Volkswagen spider!

Mounted on 8 legs that hoists this Beetle 10 feet in the air, this literal VW bug, built by Travis and Angela Campbell, is something to see!

This is just one of 15 VW spiders you can spot across the US, so keep your eyes peeled for one of these gigantic techno-arachnids near you!

One of the most interesting was “Stile di Famiglia” (“Family Style”), a 14-foot tall whimsical sculpture in the Towns of little Italy.

In , near Civic Plaza, we spotted another art piece.

This one is called “ On the Wings of Angels,” created by artist Littleton Alston, was dedicated on Septer 11, 2008. It is dedicated to the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001, and features more than 300 hands on the ball at the center.
