Stop making excuses and start making music!
At the risk of sounding like an old man giving a “back in my day” speech… do you realize how incredibly blessed we are to have access to the tools we have today?
Last year, I mixed a song in the woods. Literally 10 ft from the campfire, sitting at a makeshift table with my MacBook, Pro Tools, headphones, and Starlink.
In a few weeks I’m tackling an even more impressive feat, recording a live performance - in the woods. No electricity, and miles away from anything. My MacBook can power this interface, including driving my headphones, cranking out gain to several mics, and providing phantom power. Oh, and I’ll have a lightning fast SSD hard drive powered by the Mac also. If I get low on juice I have a small battery that I can plug in via USB-C to power everything for at least a couple hours more.
Sure, I have better preamps and converters in my studio, and a selection of nice tube mics that I wouldn’t be taking out in the woods, better monitoring, etc…. But the point is that making REAL music is more accessible than ever, with insanely powerful tools in pretty much every budget. You don’t need a big console, expensive mics, pricey software to get started.
I’ve got world class gear and decades of experience and can help you sound amazing - but if your budget or preference would be to start smaller and learn as you go, there really isn’t anything stopping you - except yourself.
