Any wedding photographer who has been doing this work for a few years knows that photography skills are only 30-40% of the job. Another 30-40% is business stuff (file organization and storage, blogging, SEO, social media, admin work, contracts, website, networking, sales, etc). The last 20-40% is the intangible skill of making people feel amazing in front of your camera AND being able to do that while navigating the interpersonal, logistical, emotional, and physical cl*******ck that is a wedding. That last little bit is something we are very, very good at.
I am looking for an early-career wedding photographer (women/GNC/POC preferred) in the Richmond/Cville/SWVA area to join me as an apprentice at an awesome q***r summer camp wedding in Vesuvius, VA on October 1. This paid, shooting-optional opportunity is for someone who is looking to improve their "navigating a wedding" skills. You will be invited (and encouraged!) to observe and ask questions as we move through the day and I’ll do my best to explain everything (keeping the couple as my top priority OF COURSE).
🤔How is this different from second shooting?
The couple hasn't requested a second shooter so there is no pressure to produce work for them or cover anything that I won't be present for. Any documentation you do will be a bonus for them (and for your portfolio). The second shooters we typically work with are other experienced professionals who need a break from being the boss but who are completely self-sufficient at weddings. This is an opportunity for a newer photographer to get more wedding experience.
