What a difference a year makes. Just a year ago, we were in this very nursery capturing her newborn portraits, documenting those first days as a family of three. I returned to the same space for her first birthday session, and it was impossible not to notice how much has changed. The tiny baby who fit so perfectly in her parents’ arms is now full of personality, smiles, and curiosity. These side-by-side moments are such a beautiful reminder that while the days can feel long, the years truly do fly by. 💕

What started as an overcast evening and a little bit of rain turned into the most beautiful sunset over the water by the end of our session. The perfect way to wrap up such a special evening with this sweet family. It was a little reminder that sometimes it’s worth holding out, because the most magical moments can happen when you least expect them. I’ve been photographing this sweet girl since she was a newborn, and getting to see her grow into who she is now is the kind of thing that never gets old. Every year brings something new: more smiles, laughs, and sass. This is why I love photographing families over time. These stages don’t stay the same for long, and being able to look back and see just how much has changed, it really means everything. 💕

If you’re thinking about newborn photos, the sweet spot is within those first two weeks when babies are extra sleepy and naturally snuggled in. Morning sessions usually feel the most relaxed and give us that soft natural light that photographs so beautifully. If those early days feel like too much, sessions can absolutely happen later. One year milestones are always such a fun way to celebrate. We start with classic portraits to capture this sweet season, then end with a cake smash and let the fun begin. This little cutie had other priorities though. He was way more interested in throwing balloons than eating his cake. He was an all play, no sugar kind of guy! If you’re looking for first birthday portraits that capture all the personality and joy that comes with turning one, these sessions are always so sweet. 🎈🎂
