Happy 81st birthday to Mr Smith and happy anniversary to this very fun 80th birthday party from last summer. The party doubled as a family reunion and there were many hugs, tears, and peals of laughter, both inside and outside the house.

Sending you many more years of reunions and milestone birthdays, Smith Family ❤️🎂🍾

Love Letter to a Richmond Family Photo Session:
.. I hope you see in your family’s photos what I saw through the camera: the gentle care, the laughter, the encouragement and play and joy. I hope you see the photos of toddler tears and remember how you helped her with her big feelings, didn’t shame her for having them in front of me when you weren’t sure how I would react. I hope you remember how you spoke to her gently and played with her fully, even as tired and sleep deprived as you were with a five week old newborn. ...

When our photos live on our phones, our kids don’t see them.

They don't see those ordinary and precious parts of their life that we wanted to remember by snapping a photo. The only photos of their life are in the cloud, without a device to reach said cloud. We're drowning in photos that our kids will never see.

And I know you know that books are important, and photo books are even more important, and that kids seeing themselves in joyful photos that their parents took is even MORE important.

AND I know your summer is crazy busy, and you don't have time to sit for hours curating photos and selecting printers and designing books. And you don't want a company's AI robots to decide what's important enough to go in your book.

I'm running a limited time, limited spot 10% off sale on yearbooks, through July 21. Now might be the perfect time get some of those old photos into a tangible book. I can help you with that.

Happy Father’s Day
To the quiet dads
The ones who flip from couch buddy
to jungle gym without losing a beat
The dads whose calming presence
makes all the difference
The devoted supporters
And those who get their hands dirty
Happy Father’s Day to the distractors, the soothers, the willing snack fetchers
The heavy lifters, the “shoot-for-the-moon-ers,” the “anything-for-you-ers”
Happy Father’s Day to the dads who cheerfully cooperate even with misgivings
(And cheers to those who say afterwards, “that was way better than I expected”)
Happy Father’s Day to the dads who play along, who know all the punchlines, who laugh it off
Who are big softies inside
Who aren’t afraid of loving in public
Who will catch you at the bottom, hold your hand, advocate for you
Who keep lifting even as the load gets heavier
Happy Father’s Day to those who stand in
Who would be here if they could
Who will always be here in their own way
Happy Father’s Day

Work I've done this week that you won't see on IG:

🪡 A Saturday morning with that documented a quilting and coffee event - they're hosting their annual multicultural festival on June 27 in the RIR complex (air conditioned!) and you should come and eat amazing food.

🎓 A Wednesday evening pre-k graduation where I took photos for families with their grads and then took photos during the ceremony. 10/10 on the cuteness scale, I was thrilled to celebrate with them

🏆 A Friday afternoon red carpet event in my daughter's classroom where I got to come and take photos of their awards ceremony and snap them walking the red carpet. Maybe 12/10 on the shenanigans meter. Loved it and was so glad to be able to take those photos for the parents and be able to free up their teacher to only have one job to do.

I'm really so ridiculously lucky to have this job and to be able to feel like I'm helping in my little way to bring joy to the people and orgs around me.

Please enjoy these shenanigans from Mira as she helped me pick the best spot for families to meet me at JRHS before pre-k graduation. (We went with the bench option.)

So often, I deliver a gallery and never hear if you like the photos or not (this is not me trying to make you feel bad, life takes over and you forget or you want to wait until you know what to say and then it doesn't happen - I get it!), but if you take the time to order an album, I know I did a good job.

It means that you love the images enough to want to see them over and over, which is my ultimate goal.

And these new everyday albums I offer, that you can design yourself without any back and forth with me, really shows me what your favorite images are from our session. And I love-love when those images overlap with my favorites.

Anyway, I consider it a huge honor when you order an album. ❤️

You know those dreams you have where you get out of bed and do what you're supposed to do, and then you wake up and realize you've done none of those things in real life? That's kind of how this project has been going for me. I think about it so much that I feel like I've done, but I haven't done it.

So maybe if I announce it, prematurely as it is since I've done none of the work, I'll actually start working on it.

My print shop is coming, at the end of May. I'll have collections of prints from places I've traveled and some abstracts that I love (and that I've heard you love) and they'll be available to purchase as prints.

More details to come but no takesies backsies now.

Any images come to mind that you hope I include?
