LIFE UPDATE & VULNERABILITY POST:
First off how is my niece a senior?! 🫣😮💨
Secondly, recovery… wow! It’s been a slow yet somehow fast 5 weeks! Everyday is better but I have to remind myself I had major surgery weeks ago & to give myself grace as I move back into work.
My surgery ended up being more extensive than planned & so full recovery is taken a little longer. I did my first two shoots this week & it was exhausting but gave me so much joy! 🥹
I will be slowly getting back into photography but my schedule will be a bit limited moving forward as I navigate some things. I will still be offering end of summer minis end of August & fall
Minis will be posted soon as well so stay tuned.
‼️Now for the vulnerable part😬
4 days before my surgery I was photographing an event & my camera broke… yes broke… luckily I have a backup 🙌🏼😮💨 yesterday my bestie over at novella imagery & I went to Indy to take my camera & it doesn’t sound great 🥲 apparently it was nothing I did but a manufacturing issue and I just got “lucky” that i ended up with a bad camera lol… and yes I laughed the whole time he told me the bad news 😅unfortunately my warranty was passed because I’ve had the camera for 4 short years. & to be 1000% I did not have business insurance because I never planned on doing this full time (no excuse just being honest) while my back up camera is AMAZING (love my Nikon DSLR) it’s been quite an adjustment going back to that after using a Canon mirrorless for 4 years IYKYK😫
Why am I sharing this?!
Because I will always be transparent & vulnerable as a business owner & human because life is hard & things happen. But this is a reminder to my fellow photographers get the insurance 😅 have a back up camera with you AT ALL TIMES! Never think “it won’t happen to me” because it can! Never judge other photographers when things happen because technology can mess up, we aren’t perfect we are just humans trying to get through life ❤️
For my clients, this doesn’t affect your sessions at all! But I may be a little slower as I’m relearning my camera all over again (which is kinda fun) I’ve found it’s really like riding a bike though ha
My images are still proving to be beautiful in fact… I kinda like my NIKON DSLR images better 🫣 (don’t come for me fellow photographers lol)
Going back to my DSLR is also allowing me to slow down a bit at sessions which is not normal for me but something I am realizing I need to do. The tech side of a mirrorless is unmatched but I’m realizing DSLR cameras have so much to offer as well.
So if anything this has not only been a learning experience but a growth opportunity. It’s not about the camera it’s about the person behind it & im learning that ❤️
As far as getting it fixed I will update everyone so my fellow photogs are informed. My r6 mark ii shutter curtains broke 😵💫 yes broke… this caused my sensor to be scratched. It’s been sent off to canon for them to send me an estimate. I’ll update for those interested because I’ll be honest technology errors aren’t talked about enough in this business. Depending on price & damage I may not even be able to get it fixed 🥲
Other than being off work for 6 weeks, having a body recovering from extensive surgery, and a broken camera life is good 🙌🏼
These inconveniences are temporary, the important thing is I’m blessed to be here, blessed to have a community that supports me, loves me,clients that book me, and a back up camera to continue doing what I love!
Here are a few images I took this week with my Nikon😍
